Braves 2, Brewers 1
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Atlanta Braves – Box Score – April 14, 2012 – ESPN.
The Braves got their first really strong pitching performance of the season in a gem by Mike Minor, though once again the assistance of Everyday Jonny Venters and Save-A-Day Craig Kimbrel was required. Minor struck out four and allowed just two hits and a walk, and threw 99 pitches (67 of them for strikes) in 7 1/3 innings, leaving only after giving up his first extra-base hit in the eighth.
The Braves got their offense in the second. Jayson Heyward singled with Brian McCann on first and one out. An attempt to throw McCann out failed and allowed him to score and Heyward to go to third, whence Juan Francisco did something right for a chance and drove him in.
Venters allowed a single to the first man he faced, but he didn’t score, and a way out showed up when the next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, runner at third out at home. Uggla threw away the next man’s grounder (it was judged a single and a throwing error before Venters finally finished it with a strikeout. Kimbrel gave up two walks and a single, but got two strikeouts to excape,

In before the pointing out of mistakes.
April 15th, 2012 at 7:12 amWill CM, Medlin and EO’F be 7,8 & 9 men today?
April 15th, 2012 at 7:55 amI was skeptical of the taking out of Minor after his second hit of the game, (and probably more so with hindsight of Uggla’s error etc), but it worked out! Otherwise, very happy. That’s the heralded young pitching we were hoping for and will need. .500 for the first time; that’s a very welcome development.
Go Beachy, let’s get that sweep.
Anyone else happy Fielder’s not in the middle of that lineup anymore?
April 15th, 2012 at 7:56 amI don’t care aginst who, but let’s get a sweep when there is a chance.
April 15th, 2012 at 10:03 amSo Buck Belue just said that Jackie Robinson helped pave the way for players like Buck O’Neil. Ummm….
April 15th, 2012 at 12:26 pmThat was ugly Martin.
April 15th, 2012 at 12:55 pmHoly crap on a stick, I got MLB.tv to work! And on my tv!!!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:04 pmThe mlb.tv app is quite good, I use it all the time.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:06 pmThree things:
1) It is such a thrill to hear Murphy in the booth.
2) Why in the world was Prado sac-bunting against Chris Narveson in the first inning?
3) It would be nice if the guy who always labors to go more than five innings didn’t have such brutal defense played behind him in every game.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:14 pm@9 The defense thing also sucks because Beachy seems to really lose it when things go bad.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:15 pmThat error cost him about 20 pitches or so. Now he’s over 50 and still in the 3rd.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:22 pm@ last thread. DOB posted they were bringing the post game comments back last week sometime. Said the majority asked for them and were polite about it.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:24 pmLovely curveball.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:26 pmKNOCK THEM IN CHIPPER!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pmSweet!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pmChippah!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pmPrado smoked that ball. I think he was harboring some anger from earlier.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pmGOGOGOGOGOGOGOG YES!!!!!!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pmWell done old man.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:36 pmHe’s awful. Cut him.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:36 pmMan, gonna miss him!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:36 pmYes! This makes me so happy to see chipper hit like this!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:36 pmI am gonna miss watching that man’s swing.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:37 pmThe radio overlay on MLB.TV, which I discovered today, is the greatest accomplishment in the history of mankind. Now I will never, ever have to listen to Chip Caray again.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:38 pmIf only Chipper was 26 again.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:38 pmChipper Jones is my hero and I love him.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:42 pmBeachy’s cruising now.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:47 pmDang, crushed it.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:51 pmHoly crap, way to go Jason!!!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:52 pmOh heck yeah!
April 15th, 2012 at 1:52 pmI want to also note that I approve of Jason Heyward and Cam Newton’s longer haircuts. Very nice.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:54 pmI think it’s about time we move Jason up in the order.
April 15th, 2012 at 1:55 pm#32 – I wouldnt change a thing w/ Heyward right now.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:00 pmI’d switch him out with Freeman. He’s hitting better, and he’s supposed to be the better of the two anyway.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:04 pmSafe!
April 15th, 2012 at 2:05 pmThey are giving us a run if Uggla will take it.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:13 pm88 pitches for Beachy through 6. Hope Fredi has the stones to send him out for the 7th
April 15th, 2012 at 2:21 pm@37 I think he’ll handle it like he handled Minor yesterday. He’ll send him out and yank him if he allows a baserunner.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:24 pmBeachy might get a little more rope, because the lead is bigger.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:29 pmSomething I’ve always wondered about the Bark In The Park thing: What do they do when nature calls for all those dogs?
April 15th, 2012 at 2:31 pmWe do not talk about fight club, we do not talk about Jason and his swing.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:34 pm@40, They have an area for the dogs to use. Mine usually does his business on the walk to the park, though.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:36 pmReally nice day for Beachy! I wouldn’t have guessed he would go seven after his pitch count after 3.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:38 pmGreat game by BB! It is fun watching him.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:38 pmoooooooh – is that unwritten rule breaking?
April 15th, 2012 at 2:46 pmPoints for Fredi there.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:47 pmFredi must have been itching to call for a double steal.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:47 pmI’d like to see Medlen or Martinez here.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:51 pmWell, if you’re ever going to double-steal with Chipper up (a surprise to the opponent, for sure), I’d prefer it be done with a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th. And, of course, it had better work.
A little surprised Chipper wasn’t pitched more carefully, but c’est la vie.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:54 pmWay to pick it, Freddie.
April 15th, 2012 at 2:57 pmMan, I even like just watching Heyward take a walk.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:08 pmi like this.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:08 pmWooo!
April 15th, 2012 at 3:13 pmThere is a reason we keep re-upping this guy…way to go Hinske
April 15th, 2012 at 3:14 pmPinch-hitter extraordinaire…
Bring on the Mets…
April 15th, 2012 at 3:15 pmWell, in every perfect day a little Durbin must fall.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:22 pmQuestion is: Can Durbin hold a 6-run lead?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:22 pmIt’s certainly the minimum lead to give him.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:24 pm@52 JH does not want to talk about his swing
April 15th, 2012 at 3:24 pmDurbin doing what he does.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:27 pmHow does Durbin still have a job in baseball?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:27 pmWell, here we go.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:27 pmI feel pretty confident that the Braves could find some random double-A journeyman that would be an upgrade over Derpin.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:29 pm@61 The Braves still employ baseball players.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:30 pmDurbin is awful.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmChad Durbin is just terrible.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmLOL. We’re going to get a win and a DERP-in release out of this game!
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pm64- And Chad Durbin! And Francisco, Diza, Livan…
And now we’ll need to employ another pitcher today.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmThis is good. The sooner, the Braves figure out that Durbin is a used up wad of excrement, the better.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmWhy is Fredi so EFFING STUPID that he doesn’t know THIS WOULD HAPPEN. Durbin needs to be dropped in a hole somewhere. God he is atrocious.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmOn an 0-2 pitch!?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmThey also employ Chad Durbin.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:32 pmChad Durbin will not be a Brave much longer.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmUgh.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmDurbin Poison
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmI don’t see Durbin. All I see is Frank Wren’s reputation falling.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmLet’s just say that Durbin doesn’t look like the greatest of additions to the bullpen.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmTrace,
How do the Braves not already know this? Why DOES HE HAVE A JOB????????????????
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmAre we sure that Chad Durbin’s real first name is not Scott?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmHoly Crap! Does he look that bad on TV (not watching)?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:33 pmLike I said. Put him in when 3 runs still don’t make you too nervous.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:34 pmSurely this will be the end of Gas Can Durbin? Three appearances and three bombs surrendered?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:34 pmJoe: “Chad Durbin has now given up a home run in each of his three appearances”
Pray there won’t be a fourth…
April 15th, 2012 at 3:34 pmSurely somewhere a pitcher exists who can be trusted with a six-run lead, that would allow us to not have to warm up our good guys in these situations…
April 15th, 2012 at 3:34 pmI guess it’s time for Kimbrel’s daily appearance…
April 15th, 2012 at 3:34 pmDunno. Maybe he intercepted Favre-esque pictures from Wren to his mistress.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:35 pm67 – Stu, I was thinking the same thing.
Perfect outing for Durbin. Proves he can’t pitch and it doesn’t even cost us a game this time.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:38 pmFlande has pitched 9 scoreless innings at AAA.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:39 pm@88, And Gearrin has 9 SO in 8 scoreless innings.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:41 pmDurbin made it a save situation but does not get one because of a technicality. Why else give up two doubles and a HR?
April 15th, 2012 at 3:42 pmChad Durbin is not good at baseball.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:42 pmDurbin is the only active major league pitcher who debuted prior to 2000 and has a lifetime ERA over 5.00.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:42 pmI was just about to snarkily mention that, after allowing just the one run, he was lowering his ERA — when he grooved that 0-2 pitch to Lucroy.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:44 pmRecapped.
April 15th, 2012 at 3:50 pmI was peeking at the game on my phone while grabbing some lunch. Said to my girlfriend after Hinske’s hit “Gonna be a perfect day! Get a sweep, win it big, no Venters or Kimbrel, and now maybe they’ll let Durbin pitch his way off the team!”
Glad to see I wasn’t alone in that premonition.
