The Braves got their first really strong pitching performance of the season in a gem by Mike Minor, though once again the assistance of Everyday Jonny Venters and Save-A-Day Craig Kimbrel was required. Minor struck out four and allowed just two hits and a walk, and threw 99 pitches (67 of them for strikes) in 7 1/3 innings, leaving only after giving up his first extra-base hit in the eighth.

The Braves got their offense in the second. Jayson Heyward singled with Brian McCann on first and one out. An attempt to throw McCann out failed and allowed him to score and Heyward to go to third, whence Juan Francisco did something right for a chance and drove him in.

Venters allowed a single to the first man he faced, but he didn’t score, and a way out showed up when the next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, runner at third out at home. Uggla threw away the next man’s grounder (it was judged a single and a throwing error before Venters finally finished it with a strikeout. Kimbrel gave up two walks and a single, but got two strikeouts to excape,
