Idle 10, TENNESSEE 6

If that was over or under’s I think I’d take the over on every single one.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:02 pmA call to the (Phil Collins) Cavalry…
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:16 pmThat video is such a farce – the actual effect of Phil Collins breaking into a live rendition of Sussudio in a sleazy bar would be either a mass exodus or gun violence.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:18 pmJust say the word…..ohh….
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:21 pmMac,
Not sure about the Tennessee score. You think we can really score 6? I mean Idle’s been unscored upon all year.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:39 pmI’m not that optimistic about Georgia, and I think La. Tech will actually be closer than that (expect the Bulldogs from Ruston to get out into a lead and blow it- that’s their MO).
And no way Tennessee holds Idle to ten points.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:40 pmBrian J. must be someone who has yet to see Ole Miss play.
Any Brave Journal Georgia fans going to the game tomorrow?
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:00 pmNow with Phil? Mac I’m not sure whether I should be questioning Fredi’s bullpen usage or your playlist? This is akin to bringing out the closer to pitch the 8th inning of an important game. Wait a minute……um nevermind.
Good work as always Mac.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:08 pm#7
Nope, but I’ll be at the MSU game in Athens.
And I’ll bet the Oxford folk are loving that 11:21 am local kickoff time, huh?
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:14 pmUbubba don’t let the State folks influence your opinion of Mississippians.
I’m sure the students hate the 11:21 kickoffs. I hated them at the time. But now that we’re terrible its nice to have it early and get the destruction out of the way early so you can then have time to do something else or watch some other games.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:27 pmMoylan with a torn rotator cuff and labrum, per DOB.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:38 pm#11 – geez…probably wont pitch next year either?
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:42 pmmore from DOB
Braves RH Hanson pitched 2 inn. in instructional league, pulled before 3rd with discomfort in scapula. Not gonna be able to pitch Wed. 33 mins ago
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:45 pmMoylan may be finished permanently with that.
That sucks about Hanson. That means if we back into the playoffs that Minor (or worse — Lowe) will have to start Game 3.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:48 pmI wasn’t even aware that Moylan was hurt…
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:49 pmI don’t think the Braves have said anything about that until now.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:51 pmWell, all sorts of news coming from DOB. One good, one bad and one horrible.
First the good: Medlen’s instructional league rehab went well. He could be back by the end of this series.
Now for the bad: Hanson had scapula discomfort and had to be removed from his rehab start after two innings. He’ll try again in a few days, but won’t be back by the end of the regular season.
And the worse news: Peter Moylan has a torn rotator cuff and labrum. He’s going to Dr. Andrews for a second opinion, but one would think that, if accurate, this diagnosis would be career-threatening for Moylan.
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:51 pmJeez. Well, you had a great career, Peter…
I think he could use a little Sussudio too. Here’s Weird Al’s polka cover…
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:51 pm#10
September 23rd, 2011 at 3:52 pmI’ve seen how State’s baseball fans act, but that was quite awhile ago.
Moylan for manager, 2012!
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:11 pmAnd yeah, that’s some lousy news there.
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:12 pmYou have to believe that if the Braves are able to make it into the postseason, that the rotation would be Hudson, Beachy, and Minor. I can’t see how they could possibly rely on Lowe except for a potential Game 4 start in the NLCS.
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:12 pmOh spare me the tired State fan vs Ole Miss fan argument. The campuses aren’t even that far away and as someone currently living in the State of Mississippi, I can tell you that they are both some of the dumbest people I have ever met.
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:14 pmI was thinking that too, braves14. And even in the NLCS for me it would honestly be a decision between Lowe and Delgado. Delgado is eligible for postseason play right?
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:14 pmThat rotation doesn’t strike the fear into the hearts of many.
September 23rd, 2011 at 4:38 pmNeither did a rotation with Jeff Weaver and Jeff Suppan.
September 23rd, 2011 at 5:02 pmOh, the greatness that was a Oliver Perez-Jeff Weaver NLCS matchup. Clearly Minor has to be ahead of Lowe at this point, right ? I’d rather give a start to Delgado, The Lisp or Teheran before Lowe, but we know that won’t happen.
September 23rd, 2011 at 5:11 pmYes, Jack Wilson is hitting ahead of Jason Heyward.
September 23rd, 2011 at 5:24 pmI based my comment on seeing Georgia play; that certainly inspired no confidence, even if Mississippi’s off to a bad start.
Sorry that DOB’s the bearer of bad news. Moylan’s been a fine pitcher for us, and he doesn’t deserve to have it end this way.
September 23rd, 2011 at 5:56 pmIf Crowell stays on the field & Murray stays away from the big turnover, we should be alright.
In the 2 Ole Miss games I saw—didn’t see their win—the Rebs’ offense wasn’t too scary.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:01 pmSo, looking at the forecast, it seems to have changed dramatically in the last 6 hours. Looks like they’ll get the game in… hopefully it won’t rain and wash away Hudson’s start after a couple innings.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:16 pmThis feels strange, like I’m watching a game from a month ago.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:24 pmEasy Chip.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:24 pmThis Strasburg guy’s not so scary.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:26 pmCrummy AAA lefties destroy the Braves.
Once in a generation talents, however, don’t stand a chance.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:26 pmLike an obsessive-compulsive, I’m counting pitches. Sixteen to the first four batters. Keep it up. Patience, lads, patience.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:27 pmIs Strasburg definitely on a strict pitch count? He’s about to throw his 20th pitch this inning.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:27 pm@37
He is. Right around 60 each game.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:29 pmHe’s gonna be over half of that in the first inning. Looks like somebody told these guys to make Strasburg work, and they actually listened.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:32 pmNats announcers pointed out Delgado is warming up in the bullpen for some reason.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:33 pmWow. Couldn’t really ask for a better 1st inning.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:34 pmOhhhh, just missed!
38-pitch 1st inning for Strasburg.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:36 pmDamn, thought Heyward might have got that one. Good cut, and a good inning.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:37 pm40:DOB says it’s probably because he missed his side session earlier due to the rain.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:37 pmThirty-eight pitches; 4.75 per PA. “You’ve gotta tip your cap …”
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:38 pmGonna need strikeouts and fly outs all night. That field looks like a wet sponge.
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:46 pmPathetic 2nd inning for Braves offense
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:52 pmCome the hell on, Huddy, that was horrible
September 23rd, 2011 at 6:55 pmI have NO idea why we didn’t walk Ramos
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:01 pmAs much as I think errors are pretty arbitrary, that should have been an error. It cost an out.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:09 pmHudson absolutely sucks right now
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:17 pmNice double play there.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:19 pmGuess the pitch limit isn’t 60.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:23 pmYou know, I like this Jack Wilson dude. He can sure pick it.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:25 pmGuess not. Although you can imagine they want to get him through this inning then pinch-hit for him if his spot comes up in the bottom of the fourth.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:26 pmBullpen warming up for Washington.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:27 pmHe’s got to be done.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:28 pmRuns, please…
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:39 pmNice work, Dan!
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:47 pmThere we go. Don’t let up.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:48 pmThe original Atahualpa didn’t do very well, what with the being overthrown by Pizarro and all, so why would you name a kid after him? It’d be like naming your son for Benedict Arnold.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 pmThat’s what I’m talking about!
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:54 pmB-mac knocked the Atahualpa out of that one.
/sorry
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:54 pmCarpenter just dropped a suicide squeeze to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0.
September 23rd, 2011 at 7:58 pmHuddy looking relaxed.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:05 pmI would flip to the Cardinals game, but 6-1 leads suddenly seem tenuous.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:06 pmMLB Network is floating between Cubs-Cards and several other games (since Boston-Yankees has been postponed).
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:06 pmThat double play was pretty crazy.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:08 pmDidn’t Emma say that it would be impossible for the Braves to beat Strasburg? Therefore, my eyes must be deceiving me that the Braves are up 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th while Strasburg is long gone.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:17 pmWow that was harsh. Instead Ububba don’t let Marc make your determination of all Mississippian’s for you.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:22 pmThis is not a good time for an Episode, Tim.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:23 pmFredi should have taken him out much, much sooner. Now I doubt we win this game
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:29 pmPLEASE BAN ILOVEEMMASTONE MAC. PLEASE!
I think that was my greatest show of emotion on Braves Journal. Even through the Landogarner days… and I really liked Adam LaRoche!
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:30 pmThe Lisp has been pretty damn rock solid.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:35 pm“Hudson appeared to have strained his upper arm or shoulder, stay tuned. He’s out and #Nationals have runners on corners with 2 out”
That might be the last nail in our coffin. We need at least one pitcher if we want to get to/advance in the playoffs.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:36 pmI went and saw Money Ball. Very well done.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:36 pm@75
We need him more than Chipper.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:37 pmGlad to hear that; I’ll probably see it tomorrow. Shame it opens against the pennant races so that I had to choose between a baseball movie and actual baseball tonight.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 pmI have read the book a few times and thought a movie of it would suck. They did a great job. Pitt was great and the fat kid was funny.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:42 pmDid Joe REALLY just say there’s nitrogen in the air
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:45 pmThere is, last I checked. About 78% of it.
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:49 pmCubs 1, Cards 1
September 23rd, 2011 at 8:58 pmYikes, hold on, Jonny.
jorg,
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:03 pmNo sweat, been to Mississippi plenty of times.
Emma subtracts ~.75 from all percentages, like when we had a 75% chance of making the playoffs objectively but 0% according to him. It’s only consistent for him to deny the air’s nitrogen content.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:05 pmLOL
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:14 pmThat was hilarious.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:15 pmPrado should not be hitting behind Bourne; it’s in his head.
Great base running Chipper!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:16 pmI can see the paragraph on GameDay, but someone’s gonna have to explain that one to me.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:16 pmJust as they drew it up!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:17 pmGreat running by Chipper and Bourn
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:18 pmHuge run by Bourn.
While the was happening, the Cardinals had the bases loaded and one out and Dempster got Theriot to ground into a DP on one pitch after being squeezed hard in the 6th inning. 1-1 after 6 in St. Louis.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:18 pmAs soon as someone finds that play on YouTube, please give me the link. That was wild.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:18 pmChopper to the pitcher. Bourn caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. 3rd baseman falls down, and with Bourn standing near 2nd on one side and Chipper near 2nd on the first base side, the Nats try and run down Chipper instead. With Bourn being ignored at this point, he comes all the way around to score.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:19 pmBourn was caught in a pickle. He stayed in it long enough for Chipper to get to second. When Chipper got to second the Nats dropped the ball. Bourn was back at second and Chipper went back to first. Chipper stayed in the run down long enough to get to third. When Bourn got to third the catcher and the pitcher were there and Bourn could walk home because no one covered.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:20 pmSaw it on MLB. The moral of the story is COVER HOME. Thanks for the descriptions; that might be the Braves’ funniest play of the year. Smartest baserunning too.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:20 pm88 — I’ll try.
On a grounder back to the pitcher, the pitcher froze Bourn halfway and got him in a rundown. Zimmerman dropped the ball as Bourn was running back to 2nd but Chipper ran to 2nd too. So, Chipper had to run back to 1st, and he got in a rundown. Bourn went to 3rd, and the catcher ran down to 3rd to back up a potential throw to 3rd, leaving nobody covering the plate, so Bourn scored easily while Chipper was tagged out.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:22 pmNice work, Craig. Strasburg gets the loss. A fine night’s work.
GO CUBS!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:30 pmNo way we win this game.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:30 pmAND YOU WILL KNOW HIS NAME IS PHIL COLLINS.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:30 pmBraves win, Braves win, Braves win!!!!!!!!!!!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:31 pmPhil Collins 1, Stephen Strasburg 0
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:31 pm25% chance we win this game.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:32 pmcmon Cubbies
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:33 pmHey Jorgbacca I was just teasing, I went to State and Ole Miss so I have the right to make fun of both, lol.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:34 pmRooting for the Cubs and the Braves this weekend. It’s Chip Carey’s wet dream.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:36 pmLeadoff triple. This game is over. Go Cubs.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:36 pmRecapped.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:37 pm92 — The Bourn run is up on the MLB highlights now.
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_09_23_atlmlb_wasmlb_1&mode=video
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:37 pmALFONSO!!! 4-1 Cubs on a three-run HR!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:39 pmSoriano just jacked a 3-run shot, and I sang some “Apache” I was so excited.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:39 pmSweet!
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:40 pm
