Impressionnant, monsieur Mac.
June 28th, 2008 at 8:14 amFinally named my boat “Jeff Francouer Sucks” i’ll post the link to the pics soon…thanks for all the input guys (and gals)
June 28th, 2008 at 9:01 amI can’t wait to see that.
I’ve never really wanted a boat, as much as I’ve wanted to name a boat.
June 28th, 2008 at 9:15 amMac-
Did you do a lillibridge or B. Jones write up that I missed?
Jim
June 28th, 2008 at 9:24 amJair Jurrjens, tres bien!
June 28th, 2008 at 9:59 amJust watched Jurrjens performance from yesterday again and what I noticed most (as I think someone mentioned in the game thread), is that I can’t think of any uniforms in any kind of sports worse than those powderpuff suits the Jays donned.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:01 am@6:
The Astros old rainbow unis were worse.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:14 amThose turd brown unis from the Padres sucked just as bad as well.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:26 amAnybody else see the Braves signed former Met’s catcher Jason Phillips and sent him to Richmond?
Just a depth move, or could the Hamster soon be replaced by a slightly more capable rodent? Perhaps a raccoon or an o’possum?
June 28th, 2008 at 10:50 ambilly-jay, yeah I agree the old Astros color explosion uniforms were worse. I should have qualified it as currently used uniforms.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:50 amTomas, don’t discount the possibility that the Astros will drag them out for some throwback night.
And what happened to Sal Fasano? Did the Braves figure out he sucked, too? That seems unlikely.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:53 amWe traded him about a week ago, I think
June 28th, 2008 at 10:55 amOh yeah? What’d we get? Hopefully something with a bad-ass moustache.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:56 amThe astros actually wore those uni a few days ago… So awful. I’m really sad I didn’t get to watch Jair pitch, but baseball has to take a back seat when it’s a first date.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:57 amBethany, you can watch all the games on mlb.com (free) from about 15-30 minutes after they finish.
June 28th, 2008 at 10:59 ambut baseball has to take a back seat when it’s a first date.
Can’t leave us hanging….so how’d it go? Who’s her favorite Brave? If she said Francouer it’s probably best just to lose her number.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:01 amAh, so the Jays wore them as part of some throwback stuff. That explains it a little, I don’t really watch that much American League ball and thought they were a regular occasion.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:02 amI think it’s a he, Robert. Bethany is a she.
If the he’s favorite player is Jeff Francoeur, though, that should absolutely be a deal-breaker.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:06 amWe sent him to Cleveland for a ptbnl.
“Fasano, 36, hit .193 (16-83) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs and 9RBI in 26 games with the AAA Richmond Braves in 2008″
June 28th, 2008 at 11:07 amOh, they were using throwback jerseys? I thought they just allowed Kelly Gruber to take every at bat last night.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:09 amSo… one hour until game time? It’s about 1:10 am here. Just wondering if I should stay up to follow the game. My game is likely to be rained out tomorrow.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:10 amThanks, JJ.
I hope he makes it back to the big leagues. Either that or he starts posting here.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:12 amI think it’s a he, Robert. Bethany is a she.
Ah! And my edit countdown timer has reached zero, I’m stuck with that mistake forever!
My apologies Bethany. I guess it could still have been a she but it’s not a high percentage assumption.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:15 amWho would win in a death match? Todd Pratt, Corky Miller, or Sal Fasano’s mustache?
June 28th, 2008 at 11:15 amSociety.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:19 amStu, Sal Fasano’s mustache just put you on its list.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:21 amIt’s fine Robert ^_^
He actually isn’t a big baseball fan, yet. I plan to bring him over to the light. The date was great, we get along very well, the movie was great, and he’s very, very attractive. It was actually my first date ever, so yeah. A good night.
Tomas, I did not know that! Thank you for telling me.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:22 amAre you saying that thing would lose to Miller or Pratt? Seems like you’re the one who should be watching his back.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:23 amBraves not on Extra Innings today, I hate saturday afternoon games, always ruined by FOX
June 28th, 2008 at 11:24 amMaybe Mazzone will be in the booth today? I enjoyed him the last time he worked a Saturday game on Fox.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:26 amLine-ups for today…
G. Blanco cf
June 28th, 2008 at 11:28 amR. Gotay 3b
K. Johnson 2b
M. Teixeira 1b
G. Norton dh
B. McCann c
J. Francoeur rf
B. Lillibridge ss
B. Jones lf
He actually isn’t a big baseball fan, yet. I plan to bring him over to the light. The date was great, we get along very well, the movie was great, and he’s very, very attractive. It was actually my first date ever, so yeah. A good night.
Nice. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the movie? I haven’t seen anything great in a while, and since I only get to about five movies a year I need to make them count. Although I saw Get Smart and thought it was pretty good, but I’m a huge Steve Carell guy some maybe my take was off.
Hey, have I mentioned I’m stuck at work on a Saturday and a little board? Or does that go without saying?
June 28th, 2008 at 11:29 amSwapping Norton and McCann plus Lillibridge and Jones because of the lefty pitching. Bobby is hilarious. There is no way McCann and Jones could handle THE John Parrish whose last decent effort in the majors was in 2005.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:31 amAllez Baves!
June 28th, 2008 at 11:33 amAt least he left KJ third. I’d have given Lilli a crack at the top of the order and of course wouldn’t have my best hitter hitting 6th, but it’s alright, I guess, considering who we have to work with.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:36 amRobert, it was Wall E. I love everything Pixar does, and this is easily one of their best.
It doesn’t matter how bad they are, lefties always make me nervous.
June 28th, 2008 at 11:37 am“It doesn’t matter how bad they are, lefties always make me nervous.”
I think they make the Braves nervous too.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:06 pmSo… are both Chipper and Escobar headed to the DL? I feel like that’s gonna happen. And if it does on days McCann sits, it’s possible the Braves will post a less impressive lineup than most AA squads. I don’t mean that to be hyperbole either.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:09 pmWe’re gonna lose.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:15 pmWait, Eckstein is still playing?
June 28th, 2008 at 12:18 pmProvince fausse, Mac. À Ontario, ils n’aiment pas toujours les Francophones.
Bonne chance, Bethany.
Les vieux uniformes de Toronto ressemblent à quelque chose “du Monde de Sid et de Marty Kroft.”
Et allons, Braves.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:19 pmApparently, if you fall behind 2-0, just throw it anywhere, the umpire will call it a strike.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:22 pmi guess i missed one of the seasons best games last night but it was worth making the trek up to http://www.bradfordvilleblues.com. i still have too mant bad memories of that damn skydome.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:26 pmIt’s disconcerting how easily lefties get this team out.
I wonder if the team that ultimately signs Tex to a huge contract will notice that his OPS was 235 points higher against righties.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:28 pmIs Toronto where old players go to die? Stairs? Rolan? Eckstein???
June 28th, 2008 at 12:30 pmAnd there’s the only run they’ll need.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:30 pmQuestion: is this team better off with the pitchers batting?
June 28th, 2008 at 12:33 pmMerde
June 28th, 2008 at 12:33 pmBetter question: could Hudson pinch hit for his designated hitter?
June 28th, 2008 at 12:33 pmAccording to the closed captioning, this game is from the ROGETS CENTER. How many synonyms can you think of for “perfect game”?
June 28th, 2008 at 12:34 pmWay to make Parrish work, Frenchy.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:36 pmI have a bad feeling about this.
Also, Jeff looks like hell.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:37 pmWait, wait: John Parrish has struck out four through three perfect innings? Man, I’m glad I’m heading to work shortly.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:39 pmParrish has figured out that he doesn’t need to throw a strike to the bottom of the order.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:39 pmThat miiiight have been ball 4 there, Brent
June 28th, 2008 at 12:40 pmDamn our lineup looks weak. That one run might actually just make the difference.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:41 pmUbubba,
Some of those old uniforms do resemble something from Sid & Marty Kroft, and not just Toronto’s either. The Brave’s old baby blue road uni’s weren’t great either.
Er, go Braves.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pmWatching the replay from last night earlier, when Matt Stairs was up to bat early the announcers said he was leading the club with 8 homers, and I thought no way in hell I heard that correctly, but incredibly enough…
June 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pmBraves-Blue Jays shaping up to be another slugfest!
June 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pmThe FOX induced blackout I’m in over here seems merciful.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pmThey just turned a double play with two out. Oh, dear.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:47 pmPractice makes perfect, Mac
June 28th, 2008 at 12:50 pmyou guys are getting the game on Fox??………..no baseball on here, dammit
June 28th, 2008 at 12:51 pmLet me guess. A bunt?
It’s on Sportssouth, ‘Cuda.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:51 pmHa, if we’re gonna suck as bad as we’ve sucked so far, I’m fine with them just spying on people in the hotel for the rest of the game.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:51 pmOh man, I’m not in blackout. I assumed the Dodgers and Angels were playing but they’re not.
Not that I missed anything.
Blanco was out by the way.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:53 pmWhy do you guys think this is a fox broadcast?
Fox broadcasts always start at 3:55 eastern and this week, the games are:
New York Yankees at New York Mets
June 28th, 2008 at 12:54 pmChicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox
ahhhhh…………sportssouth is another foreign channel here………they might as well be playing in canada.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:54 pmNo blackout issues because the game started at 1 ET … games are only blacked out for FOX when they start between 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. ET.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:54 pmWell, he’s out now.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:55 pmParrish will face 27 batters today.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:55 pmBlacked out on Extra Innings. They don’t show any saturday games that begin before 7.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:56 pmUgh, full count GIDP.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:56 pmIt’s available on-line.
June 28th, 2008 at 12:57 pmBig strike out there.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:04 pmPlease pitch around Overbay. Don’t let him beat you.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:06 pmWell, whatever I guess. That could have been a run. I’d much rather take my chances with Barajas there.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:07 pmBMac,
Those Cleveland mid-’70s unis were also of that technicolor burp variety.
I always felt bad that both Henry Aaron & Frank Robinson had their big ’70s moments wearing those clown outfits.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:14 pmYeah baby. Andruw would have had that.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:16 pmTex runs like he’s got a stick up his rear end… Yay for McCann!
June 28th, 2008 at 1:16 pmMaCann the Man!
June 28th, 2008 at 1:16 pmTwo of the three big league hitters in this lineup get the Braves a run. Imagine if they had eight big league hitters in their lineup? Can you imagine what that’d be like? I seem to recall a team like that…
June 28th, 2008 at 1:17 pmWell, that was dumb.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:18 pmLike influenza itself, Frenchy’s idiocy is contagious.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pmJeff Francoeur sucks.
Just cuz no one had posted that in this one yet. and he does.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pmIt’s after 3am. That almost makes me want to stay up for more.
There is more beer in the fridge… but tomorrow’s game hasn’t been rained out yet.
Oh, the dilemma.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pmJeebus, Tex is lumberingly slow. Maybe if he didn’t pull his knees chest high when he is “speeding”. Anyway, counts as a run.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:20 pmAs much as I’d like to stay up and drink more beer, my instinct tells me this game is going to go 16 innings, so I think I’ll pass.
Good night, folks.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pmBarajas delivers a big F you to Robert.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pmThat sucks….
June 28th, 2008 at 1:23 pmI guess so. Hanging slider.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:23 pmDevo Sue McDonald’s Over Happy Meal Toy : Rolling Stone : Rock and Roll Daily
June 28th, 2008 at 1:25 pmYeah, that was a meatball.
Francoeur’s OBP down to .296 on the year, getting painfully close to his 2006 mark of .293.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:25 pmMerde, again.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:26 pmOh, God, Eckstein ran to first on a walk. I really hate him.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:28 pmMy thoughts exactly, Mac.
I was just waiting for Joe to gush about it.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pmBlanco manages to get the job done….
June 28th, 2008 at 1:38 pmC’mon Tex. We need something here.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:42 pmWouldn’t want McCann batting here. Nah, swapping him with Norton is brilliant.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:45 pmSure is nice having McCann batting right after Tex … oh, wait … way to go, Bobby.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:45 pmcmonnnnnnnn that was ball 4
June 28th, 2008 at 1:48 pmSome pretty close strike calls on Norton.
I thought Tex should have been a little more aggressive even though Sandy Parrish was working around him.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:49 pmToo bad we couldn’t catch a break. I thought it was Ball 4–as did virtually everyone in the ballpark….
June 28th, 2008 at 1:50 pmgame should be tied….that was definitely ball 4.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:51 pmTex is paid to hit, not walk. The pitch to Norton was all four, but seriously… A pop up?
June 28th, 2008 at 1:51 pmMight as well get Hudson out of there. He hangs his slider every time he throws it.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:53 pmIt doesn’t matter as long as Hudson keeps hanging a pitch an inning.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:53 pmHudson is definitely not as sharp as he was earlier; we cannot afford to get too far behind….
June 28th, 2008 at 1:56 pmIt’s almost like a contest. Let’s see how close we can get to .500 without actually getting there
June 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pmThis will get worse before it gets better. Another “pitching matchup we have no business losing but lose anyway” game.
June 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pmFrancoeur watch:
.244/.298/.394
June 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pmFrenchy isnt our biggest problem at the moment. Its having Brandon, Lilli, Gotay, and Norton all in the lineup everyday
June 28th, 2008 at 2:00 pmFrankly we don’t have much business winning any of these games with the lineups we are running out there.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:00 pmWell, that’s it then.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pmTriple-Grybo!
June 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pmYou know, Hudson is starting to look like a serial killer. And I don’t really blame him.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pmWas that a triple-Grybo or did Barajas count towards Bennett’s ERA?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:14 pmFrancoeur is no better a hitter than Brandon Jones or Greg Norton. At least not this season. He is definitely one of, if not the biggest problem the Braves have–if only because he gets the highest number of plate appearances.
Hudson didn’t look good today and Bennett couldn’t get out of it when he was poised to do so… oh well.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:14 pmI guess using Ring or Ohman to some of the lefties isnt a good idea??
June 28th, 2008 at 2:15 pmYou know who sucks? Francoeur.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:20 pmWhat’s the consensus on Lillibridge?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pmall to Hudson
June 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pmAlso Sucks: Gotay, Norton, Frenchy (again), and Lillibridge
June 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pmre: 111
Dan, those were his numbers before he went 0-3 today.
Try .242 / .296 / .390
June 28th, 2008 at 2:30 pmLillibridge was hitting .205 at Richmond so nobody should be surprised….I would not mind seeing Diory Hernandez come up instead. I doubt he would be any worse….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:32 pmI know, Douglass.
When do the Braves say “enough” on this? Geez, if it was some 30+ year old one-year free agent signing they’d have already released him. Why is it so completely unthinkable to the Braves’ management to send Francoeur to the minors?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:33 pmBlanco has his moments….another hit and this could get interesting….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:36 pmHas Gotay done anything since, like, April?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pmKJ!
June 28th, 2008 at 2:38 pmTex is fuggin hot!
June 28th, 2008 at 2:38 pm1 run loss coming up!
June 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pmAnother one-run road loss?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pmBahahahahah!
June 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pmTex!! The Second Half is underway….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pmHoly crap.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:40 pmAwesome. One run road loss on the way…
June 28th, 2008 at 2:40 pmGotay is now hitting .100 on the year from the right side.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:40 pmSad that we’re all so beaten down by this team and its one-run loss funk that we can’t get excited by an eighth-inning rally.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:40 pmDue up for the Braves in the ninth: Out, Out and Brandon Jones.
I don’t expect much.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:43 pm#139–Exactly.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:45 pmWait, we’ve got Frenchy, Lillibridge, and B. Jones coming up in the bottom of the 9th?
Yeesh….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:45 pmNever mind about the one-run loss. Acosta in to end it…
June 28th, 2008 at 2:46 pmThis won’t be a one-run loss… not if Manny Acosta has anything to do with…
June 28th, 2008 at 2:46 pmIts a good thing that the Braves have hidden Stockman at Richmond….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:47 pmDue up for the Braves in the ninth: Out, Out and Brandon Jones.
Against B.J. Ryan that’s likely: Out, Out and Out.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:47 pmWell, that was Atrostous.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:49 pmSeriously, Acosta is the suck. Yeah, he can sometimes have a live arm, but he gets shelled EVERY outing.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:52 pmSeriously, at what point do they realize that Acosta can’t pitch in close games?
June 28th, 2008 at 2:52 pm“that dude can do deep in a minute”–the Jays announcers have hardly done their homework…
June 28th, 2008 at 2:52 pmzut
June 28th, 2008 at 2:54 pmwhy does bobby continually put rookie pitchers (or very young pitchers) into extremely tight situations? the payoff just isnt worth the risk of ruining confidence.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:57 pm…
Wow.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pmMaximum Atrostity.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pmThat was Bobby’s way of getting Acosta to cover for Frenchy….
June 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pmreally, what’s the point bringing in Acosta anymore?
(oh sorry, should have known this observation had already been made)
June 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pmAcosta is Spanish for “Resop.”
June 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pmyeah Stockman must be real bad
June 28th, 2008 at 2:59 pmAt what point do they realize that Acosta can’t really pitch at all? His ERA is now over 9 for the month of June.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:00 pmIt didn’t matter a whole lot, what with Big Out and Little Out leading off the ninth.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:00 pmAcosta=Reitsma. He has a live arm and has had sporadic success in the bullpen, so Bobby runs him out there in every buzzkill situation available.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:01 pmEven when Frenchy has a good count he can’t make solid contact.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:01 pmI honestly can’t decide if I dislike Francoeur, Corky Miller or Acosta the most.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:02 pmAcosta
June 28th, 2008 at 3:02 pmis
not
good.
francoeur is soooooooooo stupid. 3-1 count 0 outs 0 on down 9-5 and he swings at a borderline pitch.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pmIf you add Francoeur and Lillibridge together, they’re hitting .399. Can they make it to .400?
June 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pmWell Lillibridge did get a hit off B.J. Ryan.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pmGeez. The 9th is going fast.
Should I be surprised?
On the other hand, go Texas!
June 28th, 2008 at 3:03 pmParish, if you add a Canadianism it’s a tribute to a former Jays infielder turned NBA GM.
Acosta
June 28th, 2008 at 3:04 pmIs
Not
Good
Eh?
WTF?!
Why not pinch hit for Gotay?! That’s certifiably insane.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pmTwo outs, one on and a four-run deficit in the ninth and we get a bunt attempt.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pmSo, instead of hitting for Gotay, Lilli, or Frenchy…Chipper is on deck to hit for KJ.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pmWhy isn’t Chipper hitting now?
June 28th, 2008 at 3:06 pmlets see….we could have bases loaded with 1 out…instead we have runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. jeff francoeur kills rally. new slogan: “jeff francoeur: killing rallies since 2005″.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:06 pmToo bad Blanco has wasted this great effort.
Is he getting hot again?
June 28th, 2008 at 3:06 pmAll this from the same decision-makers who brought you Greg Norton in the 5 slot and Brian McCann batting sixth.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:07 pmChipper hitting for KJ so we don’t really have to use him.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pmThat ninth would have been a lot more fun and interesting if not for Manny Acosta.
I’m tired of Gotay in the lineup…and batting second.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pmmraver–I couldn’t agree more….if Chipper gets on Kelly Johnson and then Tex are up…it does not make the slightest bit of sense…..
June 28th, 2008 at 3:09 pmMy only real guess is that Cox didn’t actually want to use him.
Or some BS about prefering the switch-hitter against the lefty rather than the left-handed batter.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:11 pmRecap is up. Francoeur sucks.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
