Actual baseball games! Amazing.

New stadium or not, they’re still basically the Expos.

    Sam Says:

It’s like clockwork every year. :)

  3. 3
    timo Says:

I am excited. Looking forward to seeing 6 strong innings by Hudson, some nice relief by Ohman, Moylan and a save by Soriano.

  4. 4
    Seat Painter Says:

I’m getting that 2 HR, 5 RBI start to Tex’s free agent campaign vibe.

  5. 5
    Alex R. Says:

    Hey everyone,

I am shortly headed to the new Nats stadium, Braves hat in hand, and looking forward to opening the season with a win.

Mac, I will try to email you pics from the game from my phone.

I assume, AAR and Marc and other local Braves fans are going?

    The Second Spitter Says:

As someone who lives “out of market”, its going to be nice to watch the game tonite. Can anyone recommend a good way to catch all the games this year? (cable package, web, dish, etc) I’m not home alot, so I’m leaning towards a web package.

  7. 7
    timo Says:

Second Spitter, I have been subscribing for MLB.tv for since they have started the service three or four years ago. Living overseas and can really recommend it, the quality is finally pretty good this year.

    JB in ATL Says:

Hey y’all. Who’s excited about Braves baseball starting against the Natspos?

I m looking forward to seeing a nice new stadium and getting a little “tour” of Nationals stadium.

I’m doing a live thread tonight if anyone wants to join in and post as the game progresses.

    JB

    Second Splitter,
MLB TV is a good way to go but also XM/Sirius is a good bet if you’re like me and like listening to games on the ol’ radio. Good luck!

  9. 9
    Ethan Says:

Baseball time. I don’t even care about March Madness anymore.

There! That’s proof we’ll beat the Natspos.

  11. 11
    Tom L Says:

Took the Braves season win over/under at 85.5 and feel like its free money.

  12. 12
    JB in ATL Says:

    what’s March Madness?

  13. 13
    Johnny Says:

Yesssss! The season begins. Everyone is optimistic. I am. Loving ESPN right now.

  14. 14
    clarke Says:

sitting in a car from daytona to Columbia sc- the only thing not making we to kill all these awful Yankee drivers on I-95 is the thought of watching the braves. Go Huddy!

  15. 15
    King Diamond Says:

Another option for those who want to hear Braves games but can’t get a local radio station to carry the broadcast and do not subscribe to satellite radio:

MLB.com offers every game, all season plus playoffs, for every team at a cost of $15 for the year. All games are available on archives, too.

It’s a steal for those of us in the minority described above.

  16. 16
    Dix Says:

I am so freakin excited that the games are starting

  17. 17
    Dix Says:

    come on…

    come onnnnnnnnnnnnn

  18. 18
    Rob Cope Says:

Haha Dix. By the way, folks, John Kruk has also picked us to win the East. What is going on here?

  19. 19
    Dix Says:

I think his actual words were “I’d wager my left testicle on the Braves winning the East this year”

  20. 20
    Rob Cope Says:

Hey Mac, I noticed you have Roger McDowell as one of the coaches on your All-Hate Braves team. What is your opinion of him nowadays? Has it changed at all?

  21. 21
    Mac Thomason Says:

    No.

  22. 22
    Dix Says:

I wanna see the all hate team

  23. 23
    Kyle B. Says:

Eric Young picked the Braves to win the World Series on Baseball Tonight.

    …so mark your calendars.

  24. 24
    Dix Says:

So, would a Braves Journal chat room just get spammed by idiots?

Perhaps one could be set up with a password to be emailed to regular posters.

Could be cool for during game chats

  25. 25
    JB in ATL Says:

    Dix,
That’s not a bad idea but most spam posts get blocked on these sites.

Anyone else hear rumors about new visiting unis? or is this a fish tale?

    JB

  26. 26
    Rob Cope Says:

Dix, it’s under “400 Not Greatest Atlanta Braves” in the Categories menu in the right frame.

  27. 27
    JB in ATL Says:

I’ve also got a worst Braves acquisitions page on my site too.

  28. 28
    cthomas Says:

    Hey-
Do you guys know if I can watch tonight’s game on the MLBtv website- or is it blacked out b/c of ESPN?

  29. 29
    Kyle James Says:

Less than an hour until W throws out the first pitch.

  30. 30
    latnam Says:

    I really love baseball.

  31. 31
    McCann the Man Says:

For MLBTv…the game is blacked-out because it is a nationally televised game. Sucks for me…I don’t have cable.

  32. 32
    Tre Says:

Wow i saw two predictions on ESPN that has the bravos winning it all. When did we get love like that from them?
    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview08/news/story?page=08expertpicks

  33. 33
    Zingerman Says:

OK kids….which would you choose? A braves championship this season, or banging Angelina Jolie?

  34. 34
    Mike Says:

So does everyone in the fantasy league have a Braves player?

  35. 35
    Mac Thomason Says:

Just to pre-empt the inevitable… this is a politics-free zone, therefore it is a Bush-free zone. I will allow mockery if he looks particularly absurd throwing out the first pitch, or praise if his form is especially good, but that is the limit.

  36. 36
    JB in ATL Says:

Mike, I have a ton of Braves on my fantasy team

    Tex
    Chipper
    McCann
    KJ
and I even have Edgar at short

Just got lucky in the draft but my outfield isn’t very impressive.

  37. 37
    Dix Says:

I didnt really mean spam in the chat room, I meant more like, would a bunch of immature Mets fans or children come in and ruin the room. That’s why I was thinking a password for members who have “earned” it by proving they’re actually Braves fans.

  38. 38
    Dix Says:

    The undefeated season begins…..

  39. 39
    Dix Says:

time for some more FJM fodder

  40. 40
    Mike Says:

    Blue jerseys!

  41. 41
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

    Those things are hideous.

  42. 42
    Dix Says:

    Where do I buy one?

  43. 43
    JB in ATL Says:

so the Braves are sportin’ new jerseys tonight

  44. 44
    Dix Says:

she almost messed up the anthem…

  45. 45
    Dix Says:

I think I’m gonna get my wife a blue Francoeur jersey

  46. 46
    JB in ATL Says:

    i like ‘em

the caps remind of the 69 Braves’

  47. 47
    desert Says:

Are those the new away jerseys? Did they change the home ones, too?

  48. 48
    JB in ATL Says:

    they’re alternate jerseys

  49. 49
    Dix Says:

we should weak all black this year

  50. 50
    desert Says:

Why is ‘gold’ listed as one of our official colors? (Wikipedia can’t be wrong, right?)

  51. 51
    beedee Says:

so the lineup doesn’t sound that bad. let’s play ball!

  52. 52
    Stu Says:

…to mourn the impending loss of Teix.

  53. 53
    Dan Says:

They’re new road alternative jerseys and caps. The Braves will only wear them a handful of times throughtout the season, like with their home alternative uniforms (the tomato red ones) that they only wear for Sunday home games.

  54. 54
    Douglass Says:

    LETS GO BRAVES!

    checking in…

  55. 55
    JB in ATL Says:

    First pitch in Natspos park

  56. 56
    beedee Says:

    c’mon kj!

  57. 57
    c. shorter Says:

I like the blue. And I like KJ’s stirrups too.

  58. 58
    beedee Says:

    odalis is throwing rocks tonite

  59. 59
    joshtothemaxx Says:

less than 2 batters in and we have our first inane miller-morgan conversation.

  60. 60
    desert Says:

    CHIPPER!!!

  61. 61
    beedee Says:

    chippa!

  62. 62
    Chuck G Says:

Love the blue jerseys. The blue-on-blue numbering on the back seals the win for me. Get rid of the red and wear these on Sundays.

  63. 63
    beedee Says:

    what would mike teix do?

  64. 64
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

Home cookin’ on strike three to Teixiera, boys..

  65. 65
    Frank Says:

59–spot on–Miller and Morgan are AWFUL–Miller just bloviated something about Francoeur emerging as a power hitter even though his power was off last year

time to mute the tube and find the game on the radio–even Chip Caray isn’t as bad as these fools

  66. 66
    beedee Says:

    pete rocks!

  67. 67
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Would any of you ATL based guys be up for a meetup, say for a Sunday away game? Maybe East Atlanta or somewhere?

  68. 68
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

How old does Chip have to be before his voice stops cracking?

    .. Guzman singles.

If we lose this game.. dang it.

  69. 69
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Well that wasn’t what I had in mind

  70. 70
    desert Says:

    Hudson just dropped the f-bomb…

  71. 71
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    good start team!

  72. 72
    beedee Says:

    ughhhh

  73. 73
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Who got the error? (no audio in the Glenwood)

  74. 74
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    There’s one…

  75. 75
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

Hudson on a wild throw to first, Guzman to third.

and a strikeout to Milledge helps; 1 out, man on 3rd.

  76. 76
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

Zimmerman will get him in I’m afraid..

  77. 77
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

ANd Nick Johnson is not the guy you want to get to for a DP

  78. 78
    Dix Says:

    Chipper will make that 9

  79. 79
    desert Says:

    2 K’s

  80. 80
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Wow – go you Auburn Tiger!

  81. 81
    joshtothemaxx Says:

i really cannot handle this commentating. they dont even call the game. its just like 2 uncles you hate rambling on about god knows what.

i think tomorrow is when i buy mlb.tv.

does anyone here have xm? is there any sort of delay so watching the game on tv and listening to the local radio broadcast would be annoying?

  82. 82
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

And Nick the Stick makes ‘em pay

  83. 83
    Dan Says:

    Damn.

  84. 84
    Stu Says:

Ugh…2 broken bat hits and an error.

I think Greg McMichael will make it 10, Dix.

  85. 85
    beedee Says:

may that be the last run they score tonight…johnson has got fatter and uglier.

  86. 86
    Dix Says:

I like how they called Bill James their buddy. Joe Morgan doesn’t buy a thing that James says

  87. 87
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Hudson’s a little off with his control but his stuff looks pretty sick.

  88. 88
    Dan Says:

    Double damn.

  89. 89
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Christ even a half decent throw gets him

  90. 90
    beedee Says:

good to see all that work on defense is paying off

  91. 91
    Josh W. Says:

81- I don’t know about XM, but with MLB.com gameday audio, it was delayed about one pitch compared to watching on TV. So, unfortunately, Miller and Morgan had to come back on, and I’m about two innings away from scraping my ear drums out.

  92. 92
    Dix Says:

    U on the blackberry stu?

  93. 93
    Stu Says:

That DiMaggio quote should have a semicolon, not a comma. Well done, Nationals marketing team.

  94. 94
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

That’s the yin and yang about watching in a bar – no audio, the drinks are tasty (Storm King Stout – 9% alc) but you miss a bit of continuity

  95. 95
    beedee Says:

    thank god

  96. 96
    JB in ATL Says:

    not a very Frenchy throw

  97. 97
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

How many of those runs count as earned?

  98. 98
    desert Says:

    both

  99. 99
    Frank Says:

1st pitch swinging by Frenchy–so much for working on being more patient

  100. 100
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    That’s arip – good sign

  101. 101
    Dan Says:

    Nothing is going right.

  102. 102
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    Not a good sign

  103. 103
    Stu Says:

I was so looking forward to this game, and now it feels like the sort of game I’ll be turning off in about the fourth inning.

  104. 104
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Well, at least McCann hammered it. Ha, only 1.5 innings into the year and I’m already getting the Braves Blues.

I need to find a good baseball bar here.

  105. 105
    beedee Says:

    b-mac looks great

  106. 106
    c. shorter Says:

looks like they’re playing like they’re still in florida…

  107. 107
    c. shorter Says:

hopefully they’ll pull it together. quickly.

  108. 108
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    josh, where is here?

  109. 109
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

At least Huddy stopped the bleeding

  110. 110
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

Jon, Joe, and President Bush. Oh boy..

  111. 111
    Dix Says:

How quickly the excitement dissipates. Wait till the 2run HR Frenchy hits to tie the game.

  112. 112
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    @108

    Blacksburg

  113. 113
    joshtothemaxx Says:

oh my god Dubya and Morgan together.

  114. 114
    Another Alex R. Says:

I tried to get into the field for some $5 seats, but they ran out somewhere around 30 people in front of us. So right now I’m at my place, listening on WGST through mlb.com, watching on ESPN (muted, thank God), drinking some beer and eating Five Guys hot dogs.

So life could be worse, but right now, my team needs to suck less.

  115. 115
    JB in ATL Says:

drinkin’ whiskey. now the bloggin will get fun

  116. 116
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

ummm…haven’t been there in a few years, but my gut feeling is good luck, old son.

  117. 117
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

AAR – 5 Guys just came to Atlanta – like the burgers, but haven’t tried the hot dogs. Good?

  118. 118
    Dix Says:

We are so awesome at baseball

  119. 119
    Brad Says:

Someone remind them that the games count now.

  120. 120
    MikeM Says:

I am in awe of how bad this game is going.

  121. 121
    Joshua Says:

    this is getting rediculous

  122. 122
    Dan Says:

Oh for cryin’ out loud Kelly.

Looking like one of those nights.

  123. 123
    Another Alex R. Says:

The hot dogs up here are terrific, Spike — hope they taste as good down there!

Damn it, Kelly… why is it that when we throw a pickoff, we throw it away, and when they do, they pick off our leadoff hitter?

We’ve got two hits, one erased trying to stretch a single to a double, and the other erased trying to steal second. Can’t anybody here play this game?

  124. 124
    Stu Says:

Counting Huson’s error, Francoeur’s terrible throws, and McCann’s and KJ’s run-ins with Christian Guzman, we’re something like -7 on baserunning differential tonight. Good to see that crispness on Opening Night.

  125. 125
    Dix Says:

    Andruw would have gotten that

  126. 126
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Keep breakin’ those bats huddy – good things will happen

  127. 127
    beedee Says:

    this is more like it

  128. 128
    Dix Says:

Renteria would NOT have gotten that…

    Furcal would have though

  129. 129
    beedee Says:

    @128
    not for as cheep though

  130. 130
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

Okay – let’s get some runs!

  131. 131
    lunatic96 Says:

    awful baserunning so far

I like the new uniforms though.

  132. 132
    Dix Says:

Can we also talk about Bush’s commentating as it compares (favorably) to Joe Morgan’s?

  133. 133
    Dix Says:

    GOOD BYE

  134. 134
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    Hey there’s one now!

  135. 135
    desert Says:

    CHIPPER HOME RUN!!!!

  136. 136
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Bush is almost as awkward as Joe…

    BUT YEAH CHIPPER WOO

  137. 137
    lunatic96 Says:

    woohoo!!! Chipper goes yard!

  138. 138
    beedee Says:

    awesome
    PUT IT IN THE BOOKS!

  139. 139
    desert Says:

    Make it back to back!!

  140. 140
    Fulton County Bombers Says:

Chipper will now name his next-born Nationals.

    Thank you, thank you..

  141. 141
    Another Alex R. Says:

Chipper Jones reminds Odalis Perez why he isn’t a good pitcher.

  142. 142
    joshtothemaxx Says:

“Really nice guy. Got hit in the mouth in spring training” — George W Bush

  143. 143
    Dix Says:

    Andruw would have gotten that!

By the way, duplicate posting detection won’t let me say “Andruw would have gotten that” again….

Its going to ruin my joke

  144. 144
    JB in ATL Says:

I’ll say it for you when need be, Dix

  145. 145
    Dix Says:

well, you have to say it any time Kostay catches a fly ball….

  146. 146
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    Hacky McHackalot strikes again

  147. 147
    JB in ATL Says:

I know, Dix or if he drops one

  148. 148
    Stu Says:

Jeff is slugging .500 on 2 weak grounders to 3rd. Just imagine the kind of year he’s gonna have once he starts hitting it to the OF.

  149. 149
    Dix Says:

no no no, if he drops one then its not funny

  150. 150
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    Strategery….

  151. 151
    jj3bagger Says:

I’m not sure why I found W talking about Frenchy getting hit it the mouth amusing, but I did.

  152. 152
    jj3bagger Says:

Also, the thought of Joe Morgan being the GM of a team, as W mentioned, would probably drive the fine folks at FJM crazy.

  153. 153
    Mac Thomason Says:

Let’s just say that I commented on Bush’s stint in the booth at Thomason Tracts and leave it at that.

Andruw would have gotten that sooner.

  154. 154
    JB in ATL Says:

Dix, Andruw def woulda had that

  155. 155
    Dix Says:

    Andruw would have gotten that.

  156. 156
    Dix Says:

As long as I change the punctuation I can say it as many times as I want.

  157. 157
spike (Back in the ATL) Says:

    Nice one Huddy!

  158. 158
    Dan Says:

“Also, the thought of Joe Morgan being the GM of a team, as W mentioned, would probably drive the fine folks at FJM crazy.”

Especially if Joe Morgan’s team finished above Billy Beane’s Oakland A’s.

  159. 159
    JB in ATL Says:

good way to beat the system Dix

  160. 160
    Dix Says:

Dan, I really want that to happen now

  161. 161
    Joshua Says:

Huddy looks to be on track now!

  162. 162
    Dix Says:

I guess Acta is short enough that JM can’t mispronounce it

  163. 163
    Frank Says:

hey joe, it’s dmitri young not delmon young (not sure I spelled their names correctly)

  164. 164
    Dix Says:

They aren’t used to the new field……………………………………………………………………………………..

  165. 165
    JB in ATL Says:

did you see Kris-tee-an Gooz-man miss that ball?

  166. 166
    Mac Thomason Says:

They forgot “sucks” in their breakdown of Kotsay’s career.

  167. 167
    Dix Says:

So, when do we say “Andruw would have swung at that”?

When Kotsay bats, or when Francoeur bats after Teix (because thats there Andruw would be batting in the order if we still had him)

  168. 168
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    hahaha i love christian guzman

  169. 169
    jj3bagger Says:

I hope their new infield actually might be able to take some rain, unlike the great RFK. Mac, I was also looking for his most notable big league accomplishment to be “marrying his wife, Jamie.”

  170. 170
    Dix Says:

A baseball player should not be applauded for having a hot wife. Its like applauding him for batting .250

  171. 171
    desert Says:

having hot wife > batting .250

  172. 172
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Dix, just abbreviate to AWHGT.

  173. 173
    jj3bagger Says:

Dix, my point was not that he gets credit for having a hot wife, it was that he sucks, and that was his most notable big league accomplishment was getting married.

  174. 174
    Frank Says:

homely wife = hitting below Mendoza line?

    JB in ATL Says:

When you see a breaking ball low and away with men on base….Andruw woulda swung at that

  176. 176
    jj3bagger Says:

Mac, sometime down the line, I would be intrigued to see the results of a “stronger arm” poll featuring Esco vs Furcal.

  177. 177
    GoBraves Says:

    12 in a row now

  178. 178
    Dix Says:

My point isn’t that they’re equally good accomplishments in the grand scheme of the universe. Just that, you expect a baseball player to have a hotter than average wife, just like you expect him to bat over .250

  179. 179
    desert Says:

no, some individuals would argue that hitting below Mendoza line in MLB is still an accomplishment. The other, maybe not.

  180. 180
    Dix Says:

Well, I think only the person hitting where Andruw would have hit should get the AWHSAT treatment.

  181. 181
    sansho1 Says:

Am I crazy, or was that a year-old spiel about Chipper by Gammons?

  182. 182
    Dix Says:

Just making it to the majors is an accomplishment yes…but so is getting laid if you’re just an average guy. You’re not judged by the general accomplishment though.

The ballplayer is judged by the quality of his play once he makes it. The average guy, judged by the quality of the girl he makes it with.

  183. 183
    Stu Says:

Teixeira is on pace to earn a 2-year, $36.2 million deal next offseason.

  184. 184
    Tiger224 Says:

Come on boys…let’s get this show on the road.

Hudson got some bad breaks in the first…no pun intended. Two broken bat SINGLES. Fatboy Nick Johnson taking second was just sad. But Huddy has settled down and has looked great.

Offense needs to get it going dammit.

  185. 185
    jj3bagger Says:

Stu, that was pretty damn funny, must be something about batting cleanup in March.

  186. 186
    Dix Says:

    Thats a good post Stu

  187. 187
    sansho1 Says:

The average guy, judged by the quality of the girl he makes it with.

Who does the judging? What a sorry statement.

  188. 188
    Dix Says:

whoever does the judging, thats what they judge.

  189. 189
    Another Alex R. Says:

I know no one asked me to be the judge, but in my opinion, the hot wife joke has been officially beaten to death.

  190. 190
    sansho1 Says:

I must endeavor to meet with this star chamber one day. I’d like to get my readout.

    Go Braves!

  191. 191
    Frank Says:

Anyone taken a peek at Guzman’s stats? Before last year he had opb less than .300 but last year he had .380. I couldn’t believe the Nats were batting him leadoff but I guess last year is the reason. Talk about a career year.

  192. 192
    Frank Says:

another first pitch lame AB for Frenchy

  193. 193
    Dix Says:

    we need some baserunners

  194. 194
    Brad Says:

    Hey Jeff, take a pitch.

  195. 195
    Dix Says:

I hate when we just wait for the HRs

  196. 196
    Askia Says:

I honestly forgot how much I disliked these announcers, but they have quickly reminded me.

  197. 197
    jj3bagger Says:

Good to see Pat Corrales again, somewhere Dennis Cook just turned off his tv.

  198. 198
    Stu Says:

I wish our offense weren’t terrible. We have one run against Odalis Perez and the Nationals through 7 innings. At least Huddy’s been terrific.

  199. 199
    Dix Says:

The Braves just haven’t gotten used to the new batters box yet

  200. 200
    Dix Says:

I don’t want to have to read a depressing write up tomorrow when I get to work. Score some runs dammit!

  201. 201
    Tiger224 Says:

Offense isn’t terrible. Quit bitchin Stu. It’s only the first 7 innings of the 08 season.

  202. 202
    Dix Says:

Also the first 7 innings of a 9 inning game though

  203. 203
    Stu Says:

The offense has been terrible tonight. That’s all I meant.

Thanks for the productive input, Tiger.

  204. 204
    Tiger224 Says:

Okay, you’re right Dix. This offense is TERRIBLE.

  205. 205
    Mac Thomason Says:

So this will be the last inning for Hudson unless Kotsay gets on base. So it’s going to be the last inning for Hudson.

  206. 206
    Brad Says:

Ok, everyone be nice. The offense is good. Tonight it is terrible.

  207. 207
    Tiger224 Says:

    Say what you mean then.

This offense will score 850+ runs this year.

  208. 208
    JB in ATL Says:

Andruw woulda had that…and my grandma too

  209. 209
    Dix Says:

Thanks also for the capitalization to emphasize just how horrible it’s been today.

  210. 210
    Dix Says:

Stu, you’ve offended the post police….

  211. 211
    Tiger224 Says:

    No problem Dick(s).

  212. 212
    Stu Says:

You’re so wise. Any idea whether they’ll score 2 more tonight?

  213. 213
    Oceanside Mike Says:

Since Diaz doesn’t have a hit tonight, do you think Bobby has already decided to start platooning him? Hudson has pitched way too good to take a loss on this, but I agree with Mac — asking Kotsay to actually get something started might be too much.

  214. 214
    Dix Says:

so 2+2=4 go get em Tiger…I also remember when I was 5 years old…

  215. 215
    Mike Says:

Oh man, conflict at Braves Journal.

  216. 216
    Tiger224 Says:

    Hope so. We’ll see.

  217. 217
    jj3bagger Says:

    Burger King!!!

  218. 218
    Mac Thomason Says:

Oh, boy, Ray King. The resistable force meets the moveable object.

  219. 219
    jea Says:

Big Ray comes in. Here come the runs. Maybe.

  220. 220
    Tiger224 Says:

No conflict. Just several frustrated fans that have been waiting for Opening Day and find themselves down a run with 6 outs to play with.

  221. 221
    Mac Thomason Says:

Andruw definitely could have done that.

  222. 222
    Dix Says:

it looks like we’re playing for the homer at this point

  223. 223
    lunatic96 Says:

alright ray king’s pitching, we should be able to do something against him

  224. 224
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Bobby should institute a Willie Mays Hayes style punishment for everytime Kotsay hits something in the air.

And Corky Miller made the roster? wtf.

  225. 225
    Dix Says:

    operative word. Should.

We should also be able to beat Odalis Perez.

  226. 226
    kc Says:

Amazing, so frustrating to watch the Braves’ offense sometimes. Seems like they are trying to lose a game they can’t possibly lose…Odalis Perez?! Ray King?!

  227. 227
    Brad Says:

yeah but Kotsay does it for way cheaper, and smiles less.

  228. 228
    Mac Thomason Says:

    Brayan Pena: Rally Man!

  229. 229
    Dix Says:

    Walk is good. Lets go!

  230. 230
    Mac Thomason Says:

“Greg or Blanco”, says Miller. Which one?

  231. 231
    Dix Says:

    come on KJ

  232. 232
    kc Says:

I honestly like having Brayan on the bench.

  233. 233
    Adam M Says:

Kotsay owes us money, the way he plays. I’d say that makes him overpriced.

  234. 234
    Dix Says:

Lo Duca already threw back to the pitcher by the time KJ swung.. that shouldnt be a strike

  235. 235
    Michael Says:

“All of a sudden, Ray King is having trouble throwing strikes.”

And, in other news… “All of a sudden, water is wet.”

  236. 236
    joshtothemaxx Says:

I have missed the bitterness of this board :)

Thank God baseball is back, even if the Braves lose a million.

  237. 237
    Mac Thomason Says:

Why would the ball carry in the new stadium when it didn’t in the old?

  238. 238
    kc Says:

I am surprised Bobby doesn’t pinch hit for KJ with Prado!!!

  239. 239
    Dix Says:

    take a walk Escobar

  240. 240
    Dan Says:

Can’t believe the Braves are going to lose a Hudson-Perez matchup on opening day.

  241. 241
    Dix Says:

I’m not sure why I expected a different result though.

  242. 242
    Stu Says:

Somewhere, Joe Simpson is about to complain about the World Baseball Classic.

  243. 243
    Brad Says:

Could be worse, Thorman could be up.

  244. 244
    Dix Says:

Teix is going to earn that guaranteed 3rd year

  245. 245
    Mac Thomason Says:

I should point out that Andruw is a career .333/.474/1.000 hitter against Chad Cordero.

  246. 246
    jj3bagger Says:

I’m starting to get bitter and these repeated Jose Reyes commercials are not helping.

  247. 247
    Stu Says:

I sort of hate Yunel’s bat-flip. Anybody else feeling that?

Chad Cordero does not scare me at all, and I’m sure our guys feel the same way. If course, we all probably felt the same way about Odalis. Let’s hold ‘em here and see what happens, eh?

  248. 248
    Dan Says:

If Mark Teixeira did go .222/.311/.413 with 26 homeruns in 154 games, what kind of contract would he get?

  249. 249
    Mac Thomason Says:

Yeah, Willie is tres dangerous, we better get the LOOGY in there.

  250. 250
    Tiger224 Says:

Well, at least we ain’t down 9-0 vs the Fish like 2005. Let’s get two outs and then get two runs.

    Let’s go boys.

  251. 251
    kc Says:

I am ready to bang my head onto a wall…

  252. 252
    tggrschult Says:

We have not allowed a besrunner since te first…..surely we can come through in the 9th!!!

  253. 253
    Mike Says:

    Peter Moylan = Beast

  254. 254
    Tiger224 Says:

Come on…Chipper gets a walk. Frenchy knocks it out over the left field wall.

  255. 255
    Dan Says:

Did Cox really think Moylan couldn’t get Willie Harris out there?

  256. 256
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    Moylan is sick nasty

  257. 257
    GoBraves Says:

    moylan is nasty

  258. 258
    Douglass Says:

time to rock the rally caps!

  259. 259
    Dix Says:

I did already call a 2 run HR for Francoeur tonight.

I say he’s the hero this time

  260. 260
    Tiger224 Says:

HOPE SO (caps just for you Dix)

  261. 261
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Hahahaha, Morgan just got burned by Miller….. and god damnit that was a lucky stab.

  262. 262
    Brad Says:

    Jon Rauch sighting.

  263. 263
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    SO CLOSE.

  264. 264
    Frank Says:

    tex!!

  265. 265
    Dan Says:

This is a move you’d rarely see from Bobby Cox. Someone other than the closer in the game.

  266. 266
    MikeM Says:

    Damn, one more foot…

  267. 267
    Tiger224 Says:

Morgan, maybe you should have more free time on your hands like Mr. Cub.

  268. 268
    Dix Says:

    Ugh

  269. 269
    Frank Says:

    Prado ph for Francoeur? wtf?

  270. 270
    Dix Says:

Woulda scored the run if not for the lucky play by the pitcher

  271. 271
    Oceanside Mike Says:

If we just tie this, is Prado going to play first base?

  272. 272
    joshtothemaxx Says:

wtf is that tattoo on Rauch’s neck? looks like an I

  273. 273
    Dan Says:

Is Martin Prado really that much faster than Teixeira to justify this move?

  274. 274
    Dix Says:

    come on BMAC!

  275. 275
    Douglass Says:

    YEAH BOI!

  276. 276
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    AHHHHH HAHAHAHA YES!

  277. 277
    Dan Says:

    YES!!

  278. 278
    Frank Says:

did I hear Miller wrong–I thought he said ph Prado pulled the ball foul? now Prado is pr for Tex

  279. 279
    Tiger224 Says:

    THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING BOUT!

  280. 280
    landogarner Says:

    Whooooooo!

  281. 281
    MikeM Says:

    Ha! I love the nationals.

  282. 282
    Mac Thomason Says:

So, who’s going to play first?

  283. 283
    sansho1 Says:

Ha! Screw you, LoDuca. Score one for the world’s only Prado advocate!

  284. 284
    joshtothemaxx Says:

Miller probably just misspoke Frank. Joe called Dmitri “Delmon” earlier.

So who is our backup 1B?

  285. 285
    Dan Says:

Did McCann fly out on a 3-0 pitch?

  286. 286
    kc Says:

    Prado? Gotay? Chipper? Bobby?

  287. 287
    Dix Says:

Yea he had the green light

  288. 288
    Tiger224 Says:

Dubya comes in at first for the Bravos.

  289. 289
    jj3bagger Says:

I would like for the Braves to not make a habit of pinch running for Tex, but right there, I doubt he scores on the wild pitch/passed ball. Prado at first is what I think we’ll see

  290. 290
    Tiger224 Says:

at least that’s what Morgan says

  291. 291
    kc Says:

    Gotta love LoDuca.

  292. 292
    Another Alex R. Says:

Chip Caray reveals that Chad Cordero’s unavailable for the game. Shoulder tightness or something.

  293. 293
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    Good call jj3bagger

  294. 294
    Dix Says:

    Thats tough to hit….jeez

He’s gonna rack up the holds for my FBB team

  295. 295
    Another Alex R. Says:

Also, your new first baseman (and cleanup hitter): yes, that’s Martin Prado.

  296. 296
    Mac Thomason Says:

Let’s reiterate how stupid it is to slide into first base.

  297. 297
    c. shorter Says:

moylan indeed is looking dead on

  298. 298
    Tiger224 Says:

Milledge’s baserunning is almost as cool as his rapping

  299. 299
    joshtothemaxx Says:

    shit.

  300. 300
    c. shorter Says:

of course that happens as soon as i say that moylan is dead on

  301. 301
    Brad Says:

    Perfect.

  302. 302
    Dan Says:

    OUCH!

  303. 303
    desert Says:

    fuck

  304. 304
    Tiger224 Says:

    161 to go.

    Dang.

  305. 305
    Frank Says:

make that moylan is just looking dead

  306. 306
    MikeM Says:

If they miss the playoffs by one game this is the one that will hurt.

  307. 307
    Another Alex R. Says:

I don’t think Andruw would have gotten that.

  308. 308
    landogarner Says:

Wow, that was just about the lamest start to a season I have ever had the displeasure of watching.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

  309. 309
    Brad Says:

Enjoy it, Nats. You’re winning 69 more games this year.

  310. 310
    kc Says:

This has to be MLB’s new home-opening gift for the Natspos…how on earth could we lose like that?

  311. 311
    joshtothemaxx Says:

whatever. at least baseball is back and we’re through with this football nonsense and almost through with basketball.

    welcome back Braves!

  312. 312
    Kyle B. Says:

That’s what I get for putting Moylan on my fantasy team.

  313. 313
    c. shorter Says:

yeah, the nats are ready to win now. good luck with that.

  314. 314
    Dix Says:

not what i had in mind

  315. 315
    c. shorter Says:

only pitch moylan threw up in the zone

  316. 316
    Dix Says:

thats -1 in the one run game category

  317. 317
    Kyle B. Says:

I choose to blame Joe Morgan.

    For everything.

  318. 318
    mraver Says:

    Hah.

Well, let’s just chalk this one up as one of the 60 and go beat the snot out of the Pirates.

Man, how do you pitch 8/9ths of a perfect game and lose?

Positives: all of our pitchers who threw looked good tonight, and we had a good number of hard hit balls go for outs.

Negatives: 2 runs and 5 hits against Odalis Perez? Common, guys…

  319. 319
    mraver Says:

    *1 run and 4 hits

  320. 320
    jea Says:

ESPN showed the 24-23 statistic for home team wins when the President throws out the first pitch. With numbers like that, there was nothing the Braves could do.
