Chris in the last thread said we should trade Renteria for Andrew Miller. Andrew Miller would be a great pickup. I saw him in the ACC Tournament in Jacksonville when he pitched for UNC and he was great then, as he was in high school. I also had the honor of getting absolutely K’ed up on three pitchers by Andrew when I faced him my senior year of baseball. Not ashamed at all. He’s freaking good…
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:18 amOn three pitches*
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:18 amAfter watching College Gameday today, I can officially truly say I hate the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa with a burning passion.
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:26 amOh, and Lester back for the Vandy game.
Take that, Stu.
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:26 amThe chances of Renteria netting an Andrew Miller are very slim. D.O.B is just talking there, I don’t think it’s substantiated by anything other than the fact that a decade ago Leyland expressed love for Renteria, and that Guillen – whose bat, by the way, is much more valuable at the SS position – might be moved to 1B. All that said, I would love to have a prospect/young pitcher like Miller in the Braves system. I recall a time when there were a few…
And now, I’m going to put my head in the oven. Carry on.
September 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 pmNo way in you know where that the Tigers would give up Miller for Renteria. No insult to Renteria, but Miller is a hot young pitching prospect.
September 22nd, 2007 at 1:42 pmThe Braves’ MLB site has a current poll asking who the Braves’ top rookie was this year. 71% of voters so far have said Escobar, and 27% have said Moylan.
Escobar has been really good for us, and a big help when Renteria and Chipper have been injured, but Moylan has been amazing. I was surprised to see more people didn’t choose him.
Of course, 2% of the voters said Reyes has been our top rookie this year. Who have they been watching?
September 22nd, 2007 at 2:11 pmReyes has a big family.
Wryn, that’s just the inferiority complex. You’ll get over it. Well, you won’t, but you’ll learn to understand why it’s justified.
September 22nd, 2007 at 2:29 pmMan, I just do not feel very optimistic about college football these days. I suppose I’ll root for South Carolina tonight, because I know the most about them and there’s no way in hell I’ll support Clemson or Georgia, ever.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:10 pmThe baseball game is worth checking out, guys.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:13 pmI’m not saying what’s going on though, cause… *cough cough cough* … damn congestion.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:19 pmWell, it’s not interesting any more.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:25 pmIs Orr really that much faster than Escobar?
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:07 pmOrr can fly, but I’ve never thought he was that much faster than Escobar. Renteria, on the other hand…
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:09 pmAnd now you can’t run for Renteria unless you’re willing to put the worst player in the world in the game.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:12 pmHere’s a trivia question for you: Can you name the two Hall of Famers who have been teammates with Greg Maddux?
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:35 pmRyne Sandberg and Dennis Eckersley.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:37 pmBaseball reference rules, right Mac?
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:47 pmWell, I knew Sandberg.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:57 pmOkay. Scott Thorman just hit a game-tying home run with two outs. Is that the most unlikely thing to happen in baseball history?
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:57 pmHah. Thorman ties it. Nice.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:57 pmMighty Thor finds some usefulness?
He is a decent power bat off the bench. I’d rather see him there than Woodward, Orr and Franco.
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:58 pmScott Thorman: He could be worse!
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:59 pmThat thing was freaking tattooed.
Now we’ll see if the bullpen can hold the Brewers off. They probably won’t, because even MOYLAN had to be taken out in the middle of the 10th. That’s not a good sign.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:00 pmThat was Thor’s second home run since June 18 (83 at bats).
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:00 pmBoys, don’t get excited! First of all, one swing of the bat in a meaningless game does not make up for a VERY disappointing season, and second of all the Braves are going to lose this game, as we all know.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:01 pmFrank, they were being sarcastic. But that homer was pretty fun to see.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:03 pmFrank, we know, if he had hope we’d really be screwed, yada yada… but after next week we won’t be able to complain about the Braves for another 4 1/2 months, so cut us a little slack, please?
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:04 pmEhh. KJ is in another one of his slumps. Feels like he has been for about ~2-3 weeks now. BA’s down around 280 now, I think.
Looking at his September splits, I’m very much right. He’s hitting .220 this month. So far, he’s had two months hitting .330+, three betwen .259 and .269 and September, during which he’s been aweful. Perhaps he’s just worn down a bit, even though he’s been platooned for basically the last 3-4 months.
Also, with the expanded bullpens, Bobby’s gone a bit pitching change happy.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:05 pmWhen are the times that I can laugh in disbelief at an unlikely homer in the winter? Never. ;P
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:06 pmAlso, Oscar Villareal has only appeared twice, pitching 3 innings, this month. Wasn’t effective, either. Has he been shut down? Or did management just want to get a good look at Acosta, Ascanio, etc.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:07 pmOkay, Joey, you had a chance to get into a grand slam situation yesterday but you blew it. This is your hour.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:08 pmChipper saved a run there.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:09 pmWell, Miller DOES have four homers…
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:10 pmYeah, but this is the fun now Frank. The Braves may not be able to make the postseason, but they can take the Brewers and the Phillies with them to the symbolic golf course at the start of October.
Though I’d honestly prefer to see the Braves roll over for the Phillies and help ruin the Mets’ chances of making the playoffs. As long as the Braves get that 82nd win, I’m fine with that.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:10 pmOkay, now I’m starting to question the strategy of walking the bases loaded, when you know damn well your pitcher can’t throw a strike.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:11 pmI say Grand Slam!
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:11 pmSam, if Devine tries to fail, and succeed, which has Devine done?
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:12 pmWHO THE HELL ISSUES AN INTENTIONAL WALK WITH RUNNERS ON SECOND AND THIRD, FIRST BASE OPEN AND TWO OUTS IN A TIE GAME IN EXTRA INNINGS?!
This is just like last night.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:12 pmWell, thank God Damian Miller or whoever gave him the swing sign is an idiot.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:12 pmMan, I wish people would quit talking about how the Braves have slim postseason hopes. Just talk about them trying to win (or lose, I can’t tell).
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:15 pmMets win 7-2 in Florida. Tragic number (for the division) is three.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:15 pmTragic number (for the division) is three.
You mean for the Braves, right?
Have the Phillies play yet today?
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:16 pmThat’s right. The Phillies have just started, and they’re up 1-0 in the top of the 1st in Washington.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:17 pmWeeks bobbles it. Thanks, Rickie! Man, the Brewers just want to give this game to us.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:22 pmTeixeira wins it!
So we’ve clinched a .500 season.
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:24 pmThanks, Mark! The Braves have clinched a .500 record for the season!
September 22nd, 2007 at 6:24 pmRIP Brewers 2007 Season
