Early Division Series Game Thread: Game Four, Braves at Astros
Let’s just get this over with. I mean, even if we win this one, the Astros will just win Game Five again. I figure, why string it out?
(No, I haven’t given up on the reverse jinx yet.)

I am sick to death of articles like the one filed late yesterday by ESPN’s Jason Stark:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2185328
Stark doesn’t do this, but have you noticed how no one compares the Braves to the Buffalo Bills anymore? They compare the Braves to . . . the Atlanta Braves! The Braves need a win today, and badly.
If the Braves hope to win today, Furcal and Giles have to get on. Hudson has to keep the ball down. Pitch Biggio away or else he ends up at second base.
Go, Braves!
October 9th, 2005 at 7:30 amHouston has scored 18 runs. Of those, 9 have scored in just 2 innings, and that has been the difference in the series. And everyone here knows what those two innings have in common. We can win today if Hudson is effective AND economical. R, F, and D (I won’t use their names any more) need to stay nailed to the bench. It would also help if the top of the order remembered how to get on base.
October 9th, 2005 at 7:54 amThe “Bullpen Struggles Continue” article on the Braves mlb site bothers me more than what any columnist has to say. I guess I’m expecting something along the lines of “I’m paid to get people out and I’m not getting it done. I need to get ahead in the count, and I need to miss some bats” instead of “I’m unlucky, hopefully my luck will change”. Seems pretty pathetic to me.
October 9th, 2005 at 8:22 amBraves could still win it but my managerial criticism starts with Reitsma who has been overused for someone who has shown the propensity to blow games. Why keep Thompson and HoRa on the roster if you are not going to use them. He seems to do this every playoff.
October 9th, 2005 at 8:53 amResponding to some things from last night’s post-game thread:
Disliking Pettitte is really indefensible. I mean, it’s fine to cheer against him–that’s what you should do, since he’s not on your team. But the man is–by absolutely all accounts–a truly great guy. Teammates always love him, he’s always active in the community, he’s a big game pitcher who doesn’t show up the opposing hitters or act stupidly (like throwing broken bats at hitters). By all accounts, he’s the equivalent of John Smoltz.
I don’t think you can say Chris Reitsma sucks, because it’s not like anybody ever hits the ball hard off of him. That said, however, he gives up way too much contact and too many hits. It’s been said before–if you’re pitching to contact on every batter, some of those swings become hits. I still think he’s incredibly unlucky, but he’s been ineffective, and it’s time to stop using him.
I have nothing against Joey Devine, either. But I’d stop bringing him in with multiple runners on base. He’s a guy you could use to start an inning I think, but Bobby continues to bring him into situations where he’s set up to fail.
Matthew, I don’t think it’s fair to say Bobby knows more about baseball than any of us do. We all know Jordan sucks and Bobby doesn’t. We all know Estrada can’t hit nearly as well as McCann. We all know McBride should be used instead of Foster. That’s your evidence, right there. He knows how to handle his players, yes, but to give him a free pass because he’s a manager and we aren’t and therefore he must be a baseball genius is silly and wrong.
Stark says in that article that there’s no way Smoltz comes back to start on 3 days rest in a game 5. I’d start Thomson today. But I know I’m alone on that one.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:09 amLike I mentioned in the previous thread, it’s like Bobby holds certain players in reserve for situations that will never arise (i.e., extra innings) because the players he does put in can’t get the job done. What’s he waiting for? Christmas? Why, for example, ignore Franco’s–or Betemit’s, for that matter–success as a pinch hitter if that’s why he’s on the roster in the first place? Why, as Alex R. pointed out, ignore McBride’s ability to get outs when he’s proven himself against some of the league’s premier power hitters? Does the fact that this is a division series negate the old saw that you have to play for a win while on the road? I’m just as flummoxed as the rest of you. I just don’t get it.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:13 amMac,
How bout you get “trade Furcal” back up on the banner. We need some luck today…
JB
October 9th, 2005 at 9:15 amOne other thing. Bobby is almost certain to go back to Estrada today b/c of the day game following night game thing. This is bad news but to a degree understandable.
However, if Brian Jordan trots out to leftfield I will be watching football this afternoon with the understanding that Bobby Cox is the worst post season manager in the history of baseball.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:21 amBetemit has proved himself this year I hope he sees some action today.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:29 amWith Hudson going today against Backe, and no Smoltz for a possible game five, I’d almost rather lose today and just get this over with, than have to go home and drop another series at Turner Field. There is no way Thomson outpitches Petitte.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:50 amWhat are the chances Bobby uses Thomson in relief instead of the other guys.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:51 amThis is where Hampton picked the Braves up last year.
October 9th, 2005 at 9:55 amThe question I have is that if smoltz can’t go for game 5 anyways (Cox & Smoltz have both said so) then you are going to have to go with either Thompson or Ramirez and pray you picked the right one. This holds whether it’s game 4 or 5. So that being said, why not take your medicine today and come back with Hudson on full rest? also, if Hudson doesn’t have it, we’ll have to burn the bullpen early, if by some miracle, we live through that, no pen for game 5. I just think the pitching order sets us up to lose.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:12 amThomson or Ramirez against Andy Pettitte…I’m going to go cry now.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:13 amIt’s the lesser of two evils, really. If Ramirez must pitch, then I would rather it be at Turner Field, where there’s at least a chance of the ball staying in the park.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:14 amPoint taken Dave, also, why has no one talked at all about that joke of a tricked up outfield in the juicebox, odd angles to try and manufacture a homefield advantage is one thing, but the jogs and hills in the juice box are a complete joke, and dangerous to boot.
I think the crew at the Ted should start digging tiger traps into the outfield, covering them with grass and only telling our guys where the holes are, that should even it out some. Picture this, “tavaraz racing over to make the grab and….HE’S DISSAPPEARED, furcal races for home. tough break for the stro’s there.”
even then we still have to get to monday
October 9th, 2005 at 10:19 amWell, McCann is in the projected starting lineup, but who knows how accurate that is. My bet is that McCann will be in the lineup today and if we win, Estrada will catch tomorrow because of Bobby’s fixation on the righty-lefty thing. Even though Estrada can’t hit from the right side of the plate and did nothing against Pettitte last time, who are we to buck tradition? Of course we don’t want to kill McCann, but if we don’t advance, he’ll have the whole offseason to rest anyway.
As for even entertaining the thought of HoHum pitching this game, NO. Lefty meatball pitcher in bandbox park against right-handed power hitting third baseman with multiple runners on base due to walks in an elimination game? No thanks.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:25 amI just listened to Stravinsky’s “Sacrificial Dance” from The Rite of Spring. I think I’m ready for today’s game.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:53 amAnother bad thought: Francoeur is probably going to have a gigantic bruise on his left arm from where that pitch walloped him yesterday. Let’s hope it doesn’t affect him.
October 9th, 2005 at 10:56 amYeah, we sure wouldn’t want him to stop hitting. Wait…he hasn’t hit even with a healthy hand? What’s going to change?
October 9th, 2005 at 11:00 amthis sucks…we don’t have a prayer today b/c we will pull all that stupid theory crap…day game after night game= NO MCCANN, B.J in leftfield= runners in scoring position score on anything hit to him AND at least two guaranteed strikeouts for Backe
October 9th, 2005 at 11:11 amOn the off chance, Stu, that he might hit, it would be nice.
Of course, if it hurts to swing, maybe he’ll be more patient and only swing at good pitches. It could be a blessing in disguise.
Ah, who am I kidding?
October 9th, 2005 at 11:22 amHere is why we don’t win in October.
Bobby panics.
That is it right there, no way around it. He would pinch hit me for Ryan because I am right handed and I have more of an advatage. If we loose a game in the playoffs he puckers his ass up and makes huge changes.
Durring the regualar season he is laid back and that is why we win. He panics in October too much.
He doesn’t walk the bases loaded in the regular season in the first inning, why start now?
The pen moves last night were just panic moves. I am not worried Huddy will look good today and Smoltz will dominate on Monday (we all know he is going to start)
October 9th, 2005 at 11:23 amLineup according to Yahoo! Sports is exactly the same as yesterday.
October 9th, 2005 at 11:24 amWhile you hope that Thomson pitches well, you have to allow for the possibility that he will have to be pulled early, which in game 4 would mean that HR comes in, and nobody wants that in Minute Maid. If Thomson falters in game 5, at least you may have Smoltz for a few innings, and there is more margin for error with HR at home. Hudson on short rest is the right call IMO.
October 9th, 2005 at 11:25 amMcCann is in the starting lineup!
October 9th, 2005 at 11:28 am1. R Furcal, SS .284 12 58 46
October 9th, 2005 at 11:29 am2. M Giles, 2B .291 15 63 16
3. C Jones, 3B .296 21 72 5
4. A Jones, CF .263 51 128 5
5. A LaRoche, 1B .259 20 78 0
6. J Francoeur, RF .300 14 45 3
7. R Langerhans, LF .267 8 42 0
8. B McCann, C .278 5 23 1
9. T Hudson, P .138 0 6 0
The lineup:
R. Furcal
October 9th, 2005 at 11:29 amM. Giles
C. Jones
A. Jones
A. LaRoche
J. Francoeur
R. Langerhans
B. McCann
T. Hudson
Smitty and I think alike.
October 9th, 2005 at 11:29 amno Jordan!
October 9th, 2005 at 11:29 am1-3 are gonna get on base today for Andruw, who will continue to have a hot bat.
October 9th, 2005 at 11:37 amWe will see Jordan and Estrada if there is a game 5. I am not holding any hope (I am going with the reverse jinx as well). I had my support on Reitsma, but Bobby can’t continue to test his luck with a guy who is definitely cursed. If I see Reitsma again within the next two games, I am staging a boycott on Bobby.
Mac, I can’t believe you took off the “Trade Furcal” banner down…that was what gotten the Braves started in June…can’t believe the banner is so powerful…
October 9th, 2005 at 11:39 amGod, this NFL pregame sucks. Why would anyone watch this (unless tuning in five minutes early for a baseball playoff game)?
October 9th, 2005 at 11:56 amIs it going to be another 30-minute delay again on the game starting time?
October 9th, 2005 at 12:05 pmGuess not.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:09 pmFurcal set the tone that inning. Swinging for a homerun on the first pitch of the game. This is gonna be a long day.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:14 pmJoeyT, you mean you don’t like listening to Michael Irvin chuckle ignorantly, after making incoherent statements? I don’t understand. I wonder if he’s still on crack.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:15 pmGood start for Hudson. Houston was just as impatient as we were.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:20 pmAndruw is totally in the zone. He’s carrying the team once again.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:23 pmAJ has been on fire!! Too bad Furcal-Giles-Chipper have not.Not a good time for the old LaRoche to make an appearance.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:24 pmThat strike zone is gigantic.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:25 pmIs that Eric Gregg behind the plate?
At least Backe had to throw some pitches this inning.
Somebody has to step up and help Andruw out. Francoeur is really starting to get on my nerves.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:29 pmEric Gregg II.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:29 pmFurcal’s had a nice at bat. A gazillion pitches and no out.
WEAR THIS GUY OUT
October 9th, 2005 at 12:45 pmI think the ump’s tightened the zone. I see Backe throw the same pitch he threw an inning ago for a strike now called a ball. Maybe I’m just misremembering.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:51 pm2 on for AJ, this is where he needs to come through.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:51 pmANDRUW HIT BY PITCH!
The Astros are so dead now.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:53 pmWow, now its up to LaRoche. Let’s see the new improved model, please.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:53 pmYou suck, LaRoche!
(Just for old times’ sake.)
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmThat’s it. NOBODY here ever says another negative word about Rochey.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmThat’s it baby, make him pay!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmWay to take one for the team, Andruw! I like our chances now after that HBP.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmI TAKE BACK EVERY THING I EVER SAID ABOUT LAROCHE
GAME FIVE COMING UP, BABY
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmHoly Crap
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmUnbelieveable!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:55 pmHe sucks!!!!! Trade him now!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:56 pmSalami!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:56 pmADAM IS MY NEW HERO!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:56 pmYou’re right about the tightening of the zone, JoeyT. He started LaRoche with the same breaking ball off the plate that was called strike 2 against him in his first at bat.
October 9th, 2005 at 12:56 pmJaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! STFU, Houston crowd!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:56 pmHow about that? Game tying three run homerun in last year’s game 4, and grand slam in this year’s playoff. There is something about Adam…
October 9th, 2005 at 12:59 pmI’ve been saying that for months kc. I’m glad some people are coming around
October 9th, 2005 at 1:00 pmSomebody had got to come up with a big hit someday. Let’s hope 4 runs is enough.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:01 pmIs it wrong to be greedy and ask for four more?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:03 pmLooks like Bobby made the right call with Hudson.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:05 pmPitch counts through 3: Backe 55, Hudson 36. Hudson looks really sharp so far. Let’s knock Backe around a bit more, shall we?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:05 pmWay for Hudson to come back and strike out Biggio a second time after falling behind 3-0.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:06 pmWell, Mike, his slow August was very disappointing. I would still say Adam’s second season has been a disappointment, but his grand slam has just bought me another year of patience with Adam.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:07 pmSophomore slump. Happens alot. I still think he will be a fine player. We’ll see.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:13 pmMike is having an affair with LaRoche. He told me so on AIM.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:18 pmThat was a great catch. The entire team is so on today.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:18 pmAnd he’s going to kill me when he reads this
October 9th, 2005 at 1:19 pmBig, big play by AJ. Pitch counts through 4: Backe 66, Hudson 45.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:19 pmThis is the Hudson we have been waiting for the whole season!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:19 pmWow, that was a big inning. Hudson looks GREAT. Should always pitch on three days rest, I guess.
BTW, who said Smoltzie cannot go in game 5? Guess I missed that.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:20 pmGood start, Marcus and Chipper. Let’s see if we can knock Backe out right here.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:22 pmYou’re just jealous because Adam is sexier than B-Rob, Jennygirl
hah
October 9th, 2005 at 1:23 pmAndruw didn’t get a hit with runners in scoring position. Obviously, he sucks.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:25 pmIt would be so nice not to agonize for the rest of this game. 4 runs is not enough with our bullpen. How many pitches could Hudson effectively throw on 3 days rest?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:26 pmOh, I think Mike’s jealous of BRob! Sorry, Mike, you’ll have to compete for my affections.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:26 pmYeah, Mac, I agree with you, it’s all Andruw’s fault.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:26 pmThis could not be going any better. 4.2 innings of Houston’s BP coming up with a game tomorrow. Hudson looking as sharp as he has all season, and on pace to go at least 8. Could not ask for anything more.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:27 pmLike Babe Ruth would ever drink a light beer. Not exactly a calorie counter, the Babe.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:27 pmI have a question that’s probably kinda stupid, but anyway: If you were Berkman and you had to catch Andruw’s flyball, no chance to throw Furcal out, do you still catch the ball and make it a sac fly, or do you let it drop for strike one?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:28 pmLaRoche giveth, and LaRoche taketh away. I guess I’ll forgive him.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:28 pmHey, Bobby, pinch hit Langarhans with Jordan now!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:29 pmGood question, Frank. I think you have to let it drop. It’s just so automatic, no one thinks about it.
It’s not like that situation comes up much anymore, with the inch and a half of foul territory in most parks.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:31 pmI’ve always wondered about that…not to get all historical here, but the same thing happened in the epic Reds-Red Sox Game 6 in the ’75 WS. George Foster caught a deep fly ball in foul territory and threw out the runner at the plate (it would’ve been the winning run). It seemed like a really risky move. I guess ballplayers would rather go for it than swallow their pride and let a catchable ball drop.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:32 pmI think Berkman was too tired running that inning to think about your question.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:32 pmThat seals it. Smoltzie will start tommorrow.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:32 pmI think I disagree with that one in this situation. You don’t give AJ another chance to hurt you even worse.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:33 pmBrief aside about football: The Falcons’ punter/kickoff guy just kicked a 58-yard field goal.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:34 pmGo Eagles!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:35 pmI thought Bobby and John said he couldn’t pitch. Maybe not?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:35 pmAnyone hear the talking head on TV (Sutcliff?) talking about Smoltz’s shoulder? Doesn’t sound good.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:36 pmBraves website says Ramirez is starting if theres a game 5.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:37 pmWell, Smoltz made it seem like he will be ready. Based on what Rick said, I now am not so sure. I guess we will see.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:39 pmBut, we should probably stop getting ahead of ourselves…
October 9th, 2005 at 1:40 pmDon’t forget: HoRam 8-1, 3.59 ERA at Turner Field this season.
Of course, Sosa was 9-0 on the road before yesterday.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:41 pmCan we get through this game before we start speculating? I feel like we’re jinxing it.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:43 pmThat’s very good damage control right there!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:43 pmI don’t have cable, so I’m “watching” via MLB.com Gameday.
Can I tell you how agonizing it is to see the words “in play, run scoring play” appear? You don’t know if it’s a single run on a groundout (like this time) or a grand slam. You just have to wait for it to be posted.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:43 pmThat was big to get out of that mess with only 1 run scoring. Through 5, Hudson is at 62 pitches. He could still conceivably go 8, but 7 is more probable.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:44 pmI agree with Jenny, I don’t feel like talking about another game before today’s game is finished.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:44 pmCould have been worse. Still, only five innings down and the 2-3-4 hitters coming up. Six or seven more runs couldn’t hurt if we have to go to the pen soon.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:44 pmWhat Game 5? Season ends today. It’s over. We’ve got no chance.
How’s that?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:45 pmHudson can make his pitches because the Braves are playing great defense behind him. Go, Langerhans!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:46 pmYea seriously, we have no chance at winning this game.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:46 pmWow, fan interference double for Hudson. Yikes.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:47 pmNot with the way our pitchers are hitting. First Sosa, now Hudson. What’s the world coming to?
October 9th, 2005 at 1:48 pmThat’s a poor call. Hudson shouldn’t have been awarded second.
I’ll take it, though.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:48 pmSimple rule: if your fan interferes, you don’t get any benefit of the doubt. It’s your own fault. Shut up, Sutcliffe.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:48 pmSutcliffe’s comments about Smoltz’s shoulder are certainly cause for worry.
Sutcliffe is also very stupid. He said something along the lines of: “Tim Hudson is pitching around Ausmus because he thinks the pitcher is going to hit next, but I can tell you that Mike Gallo won’t be hitting. It’s probably that he spent so many years in the American Leauge, he’s conditioned to relax with the 9th place hitter coming up.”
First of all, there’s no way Hudson assumes Gallo was hitting next. Second of all, his second point makes no sense. If anything, pitching in the AL would lead a pitcher to be more, not less, cautious with the 8th place hitter, since he’s not used to pitchers batting.
And I’m going to go ahead and agree with the decision to start HR tomorrow if there is a tomorrow. It’s in Atlanta and at night, as somebody pointed out. Also, the last time he was bumped from the rotation, when he came back, he pitched a gem. I have a feeling he’s feeling a little shafted again, and he might give us a gutsy (and hopefully good) performance. All of this is pure speculation…I just can’t help but hope.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:49 pmSome insurance here would be helpful…
October 9th, 2005 at 1:51 pmI have an idea of why fans may not want to come to games in Atlanta: if they’re really charging $30 for parking, I wouldn’t go either. That’s completely ridiculous.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:51 pmCrap!
October 9th, 2005 at 1:52 pmWay to go Chip…
October 9th, 2005 at 1:52 pmWhere is the parking 30 dollars? I always pay 10.
Also, would anyone be against bringing Betemit in to play third? If he doesn’t hit, well, he’s no worse than Chipper. And at least he’ll play some defense.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:53 pmWhere did you get $30? It’s $15 for the lots right by the park, and there’s some kind of shuttle service from the Ampitheatre for $5.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:54 pmOh boy. Hope that’s not going to hurt us.
Oh, and according to Sutcliff, Bobby wins 10 games a year on his own, “outmanaging” the other manager. Shut up, Rick, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:54 pmLet’s take care of today’s game first…
October 9th, 2005 at 1:54 pmI heard from someone who went to game 2 that they were charged $30 for parking at Turner Field. If that’s true, someone should be arrested.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:54 pmStu, it’s usually $10, but they up it to $15 for the playoffs, and it’s pre-purchase only.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:54 pmWhat do you mean? I mean bring in Betemit immediately, to help us win this game.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:55 pmThanks, JoeyT. Your friend should do more research before parking, jenny.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:56 pmMaybe he took two cars? That would be dumb. Unless he had like 10 people.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:57 pmAccording to Don, Hudson is averaging about twelve pitches per inning.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:58 pmYeah, Rick, then we bring them back when they’re completely done, like Jordan.
October 9th, 2005 at 1:59 pmYou are funny Mac.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:00 pmGood AB for Andruw, despite the out.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:06 pmAndruw’s hitting only .615 for the series?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:07 pmSlacker.
Somebody please hire Fredi Gonzales to manage.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:09 pmterrible baserunning
October 9th, 2005 at 2:10 pmWhat the F**CK was Gonzalez thinkin’ waving him? That’s LAROCHE running, not the f***imng Carl LEwis.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:10 pmThey keep on touting Tavares’ first base sprint time. I wonder what LaRoche’s is. That would be good comedy.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:11 pmFredi is legally blinded.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:12 pmWow. Tom Brady just threw the highest pass ever and it dropped 55 yards down field in Bethel Johnson’s arms. Perfect touch.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:12 pmDear Marlins fan lurkers,
Yes, your future manager just sent LaRoche to a certain out for no real reason.
I write this to you knowing you don’t exist, as the Marlins have no fans during football season.
Sincerely,
JoeyT
October 9th, 2005 at 2:13 pmSutcliffe, LaRoche was hustling. He’s just really, really slow.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:14 pmTom Brady is someone else you’re going to have to compete with, Mike.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:16 pmYeah, Sutcliffe is making me mad. That’s as fast as LaRoche gets. It’s on Gonzalez that he waved him home. Just really, really stupid. Did you see Cox’s glare at Gonzalez?
I think Sutcliffe needs to publicly apologize to Adam LaRoche the way I did to Alex R.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:16 pmWow. Andruw tripped and fell in center and it didn’t include the damn hill…
October 9th, 2005 at 2:17 pmYay, double play. Time for more runs.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:18 pmSo, what do you think? Is LaRoche the slowest non-catcher, non-pitcher in the National League?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:19 pmVery important double play, that let Hudson to go for another inning with 81 pitches after seven!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:20 pmBoom!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmHere’s a challenge: say “Wandy Rodriguez” three times fast.
I keep saying Wandy Wodweeguez.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmMCCANN!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmSWEET!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmI want to see a race between LaRoche and Estrada.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmAnyone named Wandy deserves to give up at least one homer.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:21 pmI am going to write a song about Wandy Rodriguez, but I don’t know if it will be to the tune of “Windy” or “Mandy”.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:22 pmLike I said. Time for more runs. Thanks, Brian.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:22 pmDon was saying that LaRoche should have been watching Gonzalez instead of the ball, and that this is what cost him at the plate.
Go, McCann!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:22 pmI vote for “Windy.” More lyric possibilities.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:23 pmBobby, McCann can hit lefties, so can Langerhans. If I see Estrada and Jordan again, I will stage a boycott on Bobby.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:24 pmCan someone help me out because I’m starting to feel crazy. Didn’t Hudson start Wed. afternoon and isn’t Wed. to Sun. 4 DAYS rest. I keep hearing them say he is pitching on 3 days rest. Wed-Thur. (1 day) Thur.-Friday (2 days) Friday-Sat. (3 days) Sat.-Sun. (4 days!!)
October 9th, 2005 at 2:26 pmMarcus was not thrown out by Ausmus. The ball hit him and he was automatically out. Get it straight.
At least the radio people aren’t calling him “Brian Giles” unlike certain people whose last names start with “Sut” and end with “cliffe.”
October 9th, 2005 at 2:26 pmWell, at least they stopped talking about the balk.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:27 pmLet’s see…
Who’s coming in to pitch the eighth inning?
Throwing a pitch that McCann hammers fair?
Who’s bending down with dismay at a homer?
Everyone knows it’s Wandy!
Not very good, but it’s a start.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:28 pmJason, what you mention is a pet peeve of the one and only Don Sutton.
I think they just mean three days off. Like three days rest beyond what he would get if he pitched every day.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:29 pmWell, he pitched Wednesday. So, that wouldn’t be considered a day of rest. He rested on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:29 pmNo, man. You’re on it. The lyrics suit the melody, which is what I meant to say earlier.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:30 pmMac, I think Nick Johnson might be slower than LaRoche. I’d also think of Bagwell, Thome, and Klesko as candidates.
I guess I could calculate speed scores or something, but I’m lazy.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:31 pmFarnsworth out. Bobby takes no chances here.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:32 pmIs Bobby going to pull him?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:33 pmGreat job Tim, you are the man!
October 9th, 2005 at 2:34 pmI thought they showed Farnsworth walking out on TV, unless I saw something wrong.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:34 pmYeah, Farnsworth is coming in.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:35 pmNo, you’re right, JoeyT. Farnsworth’s coming in, but there’s no need to throw Biggio a fastball. Sliders from here on out.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:35 pmThanks. That makes sense. I just think that if it has been about 96 hours since you last pitched that should count as four days.
Wandy might require an orchestral work to fully capture his linguistic beauty.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:36 pmHe was off the bag. Good call.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:38 pmWhat about a pizzicato section for the bridge? Something snappy and crisp (unlike Wandy’s pitches).
October 9th, 2005 at 2:38 pmAnother blown call.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:39 pmOkay, I’m on radio and I blanked out for a minute and now I’m lost. Who’s pitching, who’s on base, who’s at bat? How many outs? What inning?
Sorry.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:41 pmFarnsworth, loaded, Berkman, 1 out, 8th
October 9th, 2005 at 2:43 pmBases loaded. Berkman at the plate. How many out?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:43 pmokay. bases empty. 6-5 braves. ugh.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:44 pmAnnouncer’s jinx once again. Friggin’ grand slam! Crap.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:44 pmI do not believe this crap.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:44 pmabsurd
October 9th, 2005 at 2:45 pmShake it off, Kyle. It’s still a one run game with the Braves best reliever on the mound. Keep perspective.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:45 pmOkay. So who the hell is going to save this now? Joey?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:45 pmIt’s been 4 days since he last pitched. He had 3 days rest. It’s not the same thing.
“Days rest” is just another way of saying “days off since he last pitched”. If you go to work on both Monday and Tuesday, would you say that you had a day off in between?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:46 pmI am now on line and I can’t believe this shit.
How huge is McCann’s home run now. Thank God for that.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:47 pmA 335 ft. grand slam. Ridiculous.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:47 pmWhen was the last time two grand slams were hit in one playoff game?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:48 pmThat stadium is a joke.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:48 pmThat’s a HUGE strikeout.
I am sure it’s already been talked about online today but Thomson vs. Pettitte tomorrow…series is over for us tomorrow. I think we are prolonging the inevitable with Smoltz out.
Hell, with the LaRoche home run today, it’s IDENTICAL to last years’ 1st round series.
By the way, what was said on here today abnout LaRoche’s piece of shit basrunning? I hope he got ripped hard for his LACK OF HUSTLE
October 9th, 2005 at 2:49 pmI’m crying…this is unbelievable
October 9th, 2005 at 2:50 pmBuck up, James. It ain’t over yet.
Who’s coming up for the Braves in the top of the ninth?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:51 pmAlex R., the Braves site is reporting HR for tomorrow.
And, really, the LaRoche thing was the fault of the third base coach. How can he not know Adam’s as slow as molasses?
October 9th, 2005 at 2:51 pmWhy did Bobby bring in Julio, do you think? Defensive reasons, or sitting LaRoche? I think Adam would have handled that throw from Chipper. . .
October 9th, 2005 at 2:52 pmYes, but if we do make it back to Atlanta tomorrow, it won’t matter with freaking Thomson having to face a normally rested Pettitte on the mound.
what’s worse? Bobby you KNOW will bench McCann and Langerhans tomorrow against Pettitte. If Bobby does that he deserves to be run over by an 18 wheeler. Anyway who disagrees is just wrong.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:52 pmWhat a garbage ball park. Opposite field fly ball granny followed by a fly ball near tie game homer. What a complete joke
October 9th, 2005 at 2:53 pmWhat a shitty inning, but the Braves still have a lead…
October 9th, 2005 at 2:53 pmIf you look back at the stats, the one area Farnz has been somewhat vulnerable since joining the Braves is the long ball. Most of his others have been solo jobs (he usually starts an inning, so having runners on base is not typical).
October 9th, 2005 at 2:53 pmWhy did Bobby pull Laroche? He wasnt making a point in this game at this time.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:53 pmSaying Bobby cox needs to be hit by a truck after the amazing job he has done over the years is a pathetic comment. Anyone who disagrees is just wrong.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:56 pmSaying ANYBODY needs to be hit by a truck is kind of pathetic, but I concur with the feeling, Alex: if I see Brian Jordan and Johnny Estrada in that lineup tomorrow I will break something.
October 9th, 2005 at 2:59 pmMike,
I loook at gthe utterly shit job he’s done in the playoffs. And I am angry so let me VENT.
Cox probably pulled LaRoche for that garbage effort LaRoche gave around the basepaths.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:00 pmYea, I’m not really sure why he would do that, especially since LaRoche won’t be starting tomm. Maybe it was the lazy running or maybe he hurt himself.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:02 pmJenny,
i was venting…I am very complimentary of you so you don’t need to call me pathetic…I am angrily venting…let me vent.
And no one can defend Cox’s managing job.
And will every one on here not be furious if there’s a Game 5 and Jordan/Estrada are playing ahead of Langerhans/McCann?
God, people, just let me vent here. I am not serious OBVIOUSLY however I am angry at Cox.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:02 pmFarnsworth needs to nut up right here.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:02 pmI think someone needs to calm himself
…and how do you figure that no one can defend the managing job of Bobby over the years? That’s ridiculous.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:03 pmMike, I don’t even know what that means, but I agree.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:03 pmYou can’t blame Cox for what has happened in this game. He tried to get Hudson through the 8th, and pulled him for our best reliever when he got in some trouble. Some less than stellar defense and a cheap granny got Houston back in it. The bottom of their order is up, hopefully we get through it.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:04 pmYou’ve got to figure that Smoltz will be coming out of the bullpen tomorrow.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:04 pmKirk,
Read my earlier comments…I was talking about Cox’s overall job in this series and his job in Octobers past.
Mike:
I was speaking about Cox’s BS in the collective Octobers…thats’ what I am talking about.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:05 pmAlex, please. Sit down. Drink some water. It’s not that bad.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:06 pmAlex! I can’t believe you would call for the death of another human being! Seeing as you were being absolutely serious, and that this is a forum for grave, emotionless discussion, I have no choice but to condemn you for your call to murder!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:06 pmone to go
come on
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pmMessage to Chip: Palmeiro already PH.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pmHome Run? NO FUCKING WAY
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pmno
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pmway
oh my god.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pm. . . . . . .
October 9th, 2005 at 3:07 pmOkay. Now it’s that bad.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:08 pmTie game.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:08 pmF*ckin’ Hell….
October 9th, 2005 at 3:08 pmSo how much did they pay to hire these umpires?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:08 pmToo freaking incredible for words. A 2-out homer to Brad freaking Ausmus. Un-freaking-believable.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:08 pmFine I am really upset about this and I am sorry for the truck remark. I will just leave now. I am just really heartbroken and angry right now.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:09 pmForget this.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:09 pmI cant believe what I just witnessed. How can we be that unlucky…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:09 pmyou gotta love our bullpen.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:09 pmThat was NOT a home run.
I was kidding about the truck thing, Alex. I was being sarcastic because it’s an internet message board and overstatement really isn’t a big deal.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:10 pmExplain how that wasnt a homer, i cant see it.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmThat stadium is a complete fucking joke.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmIf we lose this game, LaRoche’s baserunning will go down in history with that of Lonnie “Skates” Smith.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmSome people just don’t get hyperbole, Alex. Don’t sweat it. Your venting makes me feel better.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmI was wrong. It was. In real time, it looked below the line.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmI don’t believe this. Brad f’n Ausmus. I just want to beat the crap out of those f’n umps.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmIt wasn’t a homer in any normal ballpark. Neither was the grand slam. I hate that they’re allowed to pull this crap.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmI’m done. I have had enough of this junk. As a Michigan fan and Braves fan, I feel like I get kicked in the nuts every year by both teams. I quit Michigan yesterday, and I am quitting the Braves today.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:11 pmIf that’s not a change in momentum, I don’t know what is. Been a nice season….this would be an awful way to end it.
BEAT THE LUCKY ASTROS! COME ON!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:12 pmIt cleared by three inches, JoeyT.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:13 pmIm afraid to think who they would bring in next inning.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:13 pmI realize now that if we actually managed to pull this off, our bullpen is SO absolutely pathetic that there’s no chance we could win against St. Louis (or probably even San Diego).
When the teams leaves Houston and they need to leave the bullpen. Just don’t let them back in the clubhouse. They’ve cost us this series. They should be ashamed. They should return their salaries.
Is there a worse bullpen in the majors?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:14 pmThomson? It’s Reitsma.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:14 pmYea…take three…okay rick……..
October 9th, 2005 at 3:14 pmWell, hey, at least I don’t have to worry about driving eight hours and paying $30 for parking on my day off tomorrow.
I can’t believe even the best reliever failed.
Langerhans on. Knock him home, Super Rookie.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:15 pmI saying this now…while Reitsma is warming up. If he comes in…season over. Mark my words.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:15 pmBobby’s got R up. Can’t believe he wouldn’t try McBride first.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:16 pmWhy on earth didn’t Lidge pitch that inning? What the hell were they saving him for?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:16 pmAlex R, I’m very sorry.
And I think I’m going to be sick.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:18 pmKirk, I think they’ve got a bunch of RH hitters coming up.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:18 pmWell, steel211, the season ended before Reitsma came in. It sucks being a Braves fan in October.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:18 pmWhy not bat Betemit instead of Kelly Johnson?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:18 pmWhat did we do? Honestly? Why are we being punished?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:18 pmFalcons are about to lose on a last second field goal. All around bad day.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:19 pmStop the insanity, Braves! Honestly, I have to laugh. Really laugh my ass off at this. Astros’ luck has nothing to do with it — we have all just witnessed the nadir of pitching incompetence. I mean, Farnsworth practically conceded the grand-slam to Berkman and now Ausmus? WTF? Can’t get the job done without the right tools.
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 3:19 pmI think Betemit may have died before the playoffs started and no one has said anything yet. That’s the only possible explanation for his inexplicable absence from the last two games.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:19 pmFarnsworth just became a lot cheaper this offseason. Not that I want him.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:20 pmI can’t believe Bobby’s sending Reitsma out there again. F**k redemption.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:20 pmNo Betemit in game as pinch hitter and now Reitsma????
October 9th, 2005 at 3:20 pmMaybe the Braves aren’t tipping the clubhouse guys as well as they should?
McBride warming up.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:23 pmNow it’s our bullpen against their’s. Guess how that’s going to end…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:23 pmOh my god.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:24 pmMy heart just skipped 6 beats there.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:24 pmWhat a cheap park. Opposite field, off the end of the bat. ridiculous
October 9th, 2005 at 3:24 pmBring the paddles. My heart just stopped.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:24 pmthis ballpark is a f**king joke…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:25 pmCharging to 360…CLEAR!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:25 pmThat foul could not have been any closer to being a HR. Maybe R’s luck is changing? Doubtful.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:25 pmThat first pitch to Berkman has been a strike all day.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:26 pmThanks, jenny. I needed that.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:26 pmgreat, and the falcons just lost. at least the dawgs cked the crap out of tennessee
October 9th, 2005 at 3:26 pmEnsberg up to win it. IBB?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:27 pmBerkman out!
If Burke doesn’t score here, that hit might have been a GOOD thing.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:27 pmTime to bring in the priest for last rites.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:27 pmMac…I dont know what we did to deserve this. This is terrible. Falcons loss doenst help any.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:28 pmWell, folks, David has a sinus rhythm. At least temporarily.
I turned off the game…I don’t want to wind up with an ulcer at 18. So this site is all the updates I have.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:28 pmGood move with the IBB. One run loses it. Ensberg on doesn’t matter, you get the force out, and Ensberg is just ridiculous.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:28 pmChip’s making Bagwell out to be the next Kirk Gibson. Lord, I hope not.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:30 pmNo matter what happens here, I want to apologize for posting HoRam’s home pitching stats when we were up 6-1. My bad.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:30 pmwhew!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:31 pmWhew! Dodged a bullet there.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:31 pmGreat job Chris.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:32 pmApology accepted, atlinl.a. We all jumped the gun.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:32 pmWe live to see another…15 minutes or so.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:32 pmSurvived an R innning. I can’t take this much longer.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:32 pmMy hearts racing right now, I felt like I was out there pitching.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:33 pmAnybody listening to this on the radio? You’d think Chip was an Astros homer based on his commentary. Building up Bagwell. I hate Chip. I wish Don would break his nose or something.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:34 pmThe Falcons did very well without Vick, we should be proud of them!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:34 pmToday’s my birthday. It would be nice if they’d pull it out (I don’t ask for much as far as presents go).
October 9th, 2005 at 3:35 pmI think there’s a good chance this thread breaks the record for comments.
Good at bat from Furcal.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:36 pmIt’s time for the doubles machine to get going again.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmNice bunt, Marcus.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pm%^*#^%$#^%^ bunts!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmDammit, how many times does Giles have to show he can’t bunt before Cox gets the message.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmWhy didn’t they just have Furcal steal in the first place?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmCancel that.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmI can’t believe that bunt call. I wish Alex was here to be all over that.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmNo DP, Chipper, Pleeeeeeease!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:37 pmTHAT’S WHY I HATE THE BUNT!! Guys rave on about small ball, but you don’t execute sometimes & you’re just giving them outs.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:38 pmAnd then Furcal steals anyway – why not just go with the straight steal instead of wasting outs on bunts!
And, no, I’m not one of these guys who says you should NEVER bunt. But it’s called for way too much…
I am so sicked of the Astos complaining. They don’t deserve to win this game.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:38 pmThe Braves are working the count.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:39 pmHit one out to the left field Chip. Show them how stupid this stadium is!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:40 pmVery nice slo-mo replay close up of Furcal’s foot. He was out and we caught a break there. Let’s make something out of it.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:40 pmJoeyT
I am here I was just remaining silent. Giles cant bunt but at least he was HACKING like always.
thank god they walked Chipper…Andruw has been the far better hitter this series.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:41 pmokay Andruw, if you’re the MVP, prove it right here.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:41 pmDo they pitch to Andruw?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:41 pmIt’s always f-ng foul when its our guys.
I agree…that Ausmus hit was a bullshit home run. I hate this ballpark. HATE IT.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:43 pmWe just can’t seem to get a break.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:43 pmThe strike zone has shrunk in the last 2-3 innings.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:44 pmwell, we got a break on that Furcal overslide.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:44 pmGod dammit. dammit dammit dammit.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:44 pm*bangs head against keyboard*
October 9th, 2005 at 3:45 pmAn opposite field single here would do just fine.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:45 pmShut the hell up Sutcliffe.
Everyone strikes out once in a while you dumbass.
Why is he talking down to people like he’s f’ing Hank Aaron.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:45 pmPick him up, Julio. Dala una vuelta, viejo. Dala una vuelta.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:45 pmthat was LOW.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:46 pmNice one, Raffy. That’s ballsy.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:46 pmSeriously, Sutcliffe has been awful…as BAD as Pastel Boy Lyons.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:47 pm*bangs head on keyboard*
*blood on keyboard*
October 9th, 2005 at 3:48 pmWay to pick us up Franco…I dont know how much longer our bullpen can hold.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:49 pmI applaud Julio though for really WORKING Lidge ansd working the count. I know we may lose but Julio shows there’s such a thing as a QUALITY out. I hope he’s back with the Braves next year.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:49 pmDamn it…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:49 pmI have turned off the volume a long time ago, I can’t stand Sutcliffe…
October 9th, 2005 at 3:50 pmMy prediction: Our bullpen holds for approximately .1 more innings.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:50 pmREITSMA FOR TWO INNINGS!!!!!!!!! We re playing russian roulette right now.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:52 pmIs anyone else having a hard time sitting still?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:53 pmKeep fighting, Braves. Just block out those asshole Astros fans, and these asshole announcers.
it feels like the weight of the world is against the Braves.
If there’s any justice in this world, we get a chance tomorrow night. Just one more chance.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:53 pmWe need to give positive reinforcement to Reitsma right now…c’mon Chris. C’mon…one more strike, baby!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:54 pmI’m now very glad they pinch-ran for Berkman.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:55 pmGreat job, Chris….I am applauding his 2 inning effort. Great job.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:55 pmMaybe Reitsma needed to be more tired?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:55 pmEscaped two R innings. We’re pushing the envelope here.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:55 pmOkay, Reitsma proved his mettle, now who pitches the 12th?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:56 pmMac,
should we dare try Reitsma for 1 more inning? I mean, it will officially burn him for tomorrow but maybe we should russian roullette it again?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:56 pmHow very un-clown-like, eh, steel?
Time for Smurph to step up, dang it. Or Langerhans, again. Or McCann, again. Someone, please. Please. Please?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:56 pmI can’t believe this, when I finally lose faith in Reitsma, he is on fire!!! I should just go ahead and say I have lost faith in the whole Braves team!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:56 pmI too will applaud the effort by Reitsma. I cant believe I just said that but he pitched great today.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:57 pmBrower in the 12th
October 9th, 2005 at 3:57 pmFrancouer is due, DUE for something magicla right here…c’mon Frenchy.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:57 pmI never lost faith in Reitsma; however, he should not go out for a third inning.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:58 pmWell, here comes McCann…can he save our asses one LAST TIME?
October 9th, 2005 at 3:58 pmwhoops…hometown boy Langerhans…a homer would be nice or get on for McCann!
October 9th, 2005 at 3:59 pmI’m with Mike. Let Brower pitch the 12th.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:59 pmYes stu…very un-clown-like. He officially turned in his wig and red nose.
October 9th, 2005 at 3:59 pmAs if the braves explosion isnt bad enough, it’s Dallas 17 Eagles 0 through one quarter >:O
October 9th, 2005 at 4:00 pmLangerhans had a great at bat there.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:00 pmMcCann is about to hit a two-run HR. He’s so clutch. He’s the new Jeter, except that he actually IS clutch.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:00 pmLangerhans AGAIN.
Hes on for the 4th time.
If we win today, and Bobby starts Brian Jordan tomorrow, I am going to be unbelievably furious. Just screeching mad.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:00 pmThomson warming up. Betemit on deck.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:01 pmBetemit on deck.
Now, Bobby, THATS good managing.
FINALLY.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:01 pmThomson in the bullpen
October 9th, 2005 at 4:01 pmHE S ALIVE!!! Betemit on deck…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:02 pmHmmm, Thomson. This smacks of Charlie Liebrandt to me.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:03 pmWait, you mean Bobby is PLAYING the .300 hitter?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:03 pmDid anyone just hear Sutcliffe?
Why in hell would HoRam start over Thomson??
why
October 9th, 2005 at 4:03 pm???????????????????????
Can someone explain why HoRam would get the start over Thomson?
Smoltz with his arm in a sling would be more trustworthy.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:04 pmstop worrying about tomm. It jinxed us once already.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:04 pmFrom the Braves official site, Alex:
October 9th, 2005 at 4:05 pmHeres the good news: if this game keeps going, they are running out of pitchers and Lidge is getting very very spent.
Even if Lidge pitched tomorrow (assuming there is a tomorrow), he wont be effective.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:05 pmThe Astros have yet to see a Braves lefty start, plus Ramirez pitches well at Turner Field, especially at night. Thomson would be on call, of course, as would Smoltz, et al.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:05 pmSeeing that even Langerhans can steal on Lidge, why oh why was Giles bunting?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:06 pmPlease oh please stop talking about this hypothetical Game 5…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:06 pmP.S.
Bobby says that Ramirez is laying off his cutter, which is the pitch that’s gotten him into so much trouble, especially with the long ball.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:06 pmJoeyT,
I see your posting and I still think its a horrible horrible horrible horrible decision to start HoRam EVER in the post season.
Just be thankful that a Game 5 would be in Atlanta and at night….the one scenario I have seen Horam be at all successful. Can you IMAGINE if Horam had started a day game in Houston. It would have been a 15-0 game.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:07 pmI will be shocked if we get another chance to bat this season.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:08 pmDidn’t we already agree that speculation about tomm. is a bad idea?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:08 pmAlex R., I completely agree with you about HR. I was just posting to let you know that the HR game 5 thing is verified, and not just an ESPN guy extrapolating.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:09 pmJoeyT
I know you agree…no biggie. But still, I think Thomson is a better start tomorrow though turning Berkman around is effective.
I cant believe I am going to say this but the longer the game goes, the more it favors us…as bad as our pen has been, Houston is almost out of pitchers. I also don’t know how well rested Clemens is.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:12 pmThompson looks sharp so far…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:12 pmso far, Thomson looks CRISP out there.
I think we should consider letting him bat and keeping him out there like a start.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:13 pmI just hope that Thomson shuts down the Astros for however many innings it takes to eek out a run, and that Smoltz magically heals overnight.
That’s all I want.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:13 pmBobby’s counting on Thomson taking them the rest of the way.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:14 pmGreat inning John…njow it makes me wish more we had you starting tomorrow but we need to be as positive as possible now about HoRam if theres a Monday game.
Let’s pray for that problem and that we escape the bandbox from hell, ALIVE.
F-ng Houston.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:14 pmAlex, I think that’s absolutely what Bobby has in mind. You have to keep him out there in a game like this.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:14 pmThis is the second-most comments for a game thread ever. Record is 413, August 20, lost to the Padres in 13 on Devine’s first grand slam.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:14 pmThomson looked really good. We actually may have an edge now. Houston’s bullpen is almost completely spent.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:14 pmEverytime Ensberg is at the plate, we should walk him. The remaining Astros lineup is a complete joke except Biggio.
Guys, there is no tomorrow until we take care of today….
October 9th, 2005 at 4:15 pmLidge has thrown 45 pitches…do they send him back out there?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:15 pmWho’s left on the bench? Orr, Jordan, who else?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:15 pmKirk,
I fully agree…even if we dont score right now, if we can just keep holding them, I think we can pull this out late. There 8th and 9th inning momentum is a past memory now.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:16 pmQuestion: Is Clemens available to pitch? Just wondering.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:16 pmI don’t see Bobby using any more bench. I mean, he can’t even pinch-run for Franco with no backup first basemen.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:16 pmOn two days rest? I doubt it.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:16 pmDavid,
Estrada’s left, right? And don’t even utter Jordan’s name. He’s Voldemort to me now..the one who’s name shall not be uttered or something.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:17 pmClemens has moved to the bullpen, so one would assume he’s available to pitch.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:17 pmTERRY PENDLETON ON DECK!!! HE’S A LEGAL HITTER!!!! LETS DO THIS 92 STYLE!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:17 pmThanks, I’d forgotten about Estrada. Just trying to get a head count.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:18 pmOrr, Estrada and Jordan are our bench players.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:18 pmEven if Clemens does come out, he’s already hurting and on 2 days rest. I like our chances.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:18 pmI just purchased a blank white jersey off of ebay! I will write the winner of every game on it so I can no longer be a loser!!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:18 pmOrr, Estrada and the ONE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED, OK PEOPLE?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:19 pmThe Astros have emptied their bench. Only a pitcher can PH.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:20 pmOk Chipper, get something started here. As in a home run.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:20 pmChip just mentioned the unmentionable one. Sorry.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:20 pmBy the way, let me step aside and applaud the Falcson for their efforts today. No Vick, and Schaub looked great…the Falcons may have the best back up QB in the NFL and a great effort without Vick. It’s not a bad loss and this team still looks on course to replay Philly in the NFC title game.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:21 pmHouston has no one on the bench and no bullpen left. Clemens is the only other pitcher who could possibly appear. Ausmus is now out in the field. If we can’t score before Houston now, we deserve to lose.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:22 pmOk, we did nothing against Wheeler but if Thomson can hold them again, eventually, a tired, and hurting Rocket comes out…he will not look as crisp as guys like Wheeler, Qualls and Lidge.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:22 pmPhilly isn’t making it this year. We are terrible out of the gates in games. I just can’t see it this year.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:22 pmI’d say, regardless of what happens next, we don’t deserve to win this game.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:23 pmI almost think Houston knows now its tough to win this game with no people left and at the very least, they are trying to get us to burn everything before tomorrow night. They can lose asnd still live to play again and they know this.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:23 pmThe Falcons offense played great as did Matt Schaub. The defense did not play well however. The Vinateri field goals at the end of all their games is getting old.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:23 pmThis is one of those games where I desperately wish that I didn’t so desperately care…know what I’m saying?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:24 pmI say the Astros don’t deserve to win this game more than the Braves.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:24 pmMike Clay,
How did you come to be a Braves and Eagles fan? Thats highly unusual!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:24 pmkc,
The Houston asshole NEVER EVER deserve to win more then the Braves. Thats a given.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:25 pmI want the Braves to win this game so Mac can keep working on that Wandy tune.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:26 pmwow….scary scary out. but hes out. thank god.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:26 pmI’m a Braves and a Patriots fan, Alex. Do I get to join the Incongruous Fandom Club?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:26 pmI’m not sure really. I live in PA, so that explains the Eagles. As fo the braves, i just fell in love with them at a young age and have been following them ever since. But yes, it is very unusual.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:26 pmAnd, oops, I shouldn’t have said that.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:27 pmCan we just walk Ensberg for %$#”!’ sake?!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:27 pmDallas 24 Philly 3
October 9th, 2005 at 4:27 pmJenny,
There’s not a dislike between Boston & Atlanta the way there is between Philly & Atlanta…I am much less surprised.
And by the way, I generally like the Patriots also (though not like the Falcons). I think Brady is a good guy and I like Bob Kraft, the owner.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:28 pmI am not worried about this walk. Thomson still looks very comfortable and very confident out there.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:29 pmOK, it is officially time for theme music. I’m throwing on some Widespread Panic. Rally Braves!!
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 4:29 pmoh man, Alex, I wish you hadn’t said that, even if it’s true.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:29 pmAlex R., I’m kind of the opposite of Mike Clay, but also a Braves and Eagles fan. I grew up in the southeast and lived in Philly for a few years (college and some after).
Growing up, everyone around here was a Braves fan, and I was no different, but NFL wise, it was about half Saints/half Falcons. I didn’t really have a team until I moved up north for a while. It’s really hard to not get caught up in the Eagles if you live in the Philadelphia area for any length of time.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:30 pmThomson’s going right after them. I admire that.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:31 pmLet the record show that the lineup the Astros have out now is really sorry.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:31 pmatlinl.a.
see…not to worry.
It’s about body language. Thomson looks very confident out there…I am feeling good for him and now really wish he was going tomorrow, if theres a tomorrow.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:31 pmHow many of our players that didn’t make the post-season roster got to travel with the team and sit in the dugout? I’ve seen Perez, Hampton, and Boyer that I can remember, but is it just the injured players? I can’t imagine Kolb wanting to remain with the team (though his spirit is definitely still with bullpen), but what about Davies, Hollandsworthless, etc.?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:31 pmAlso let the record show a new comments record of 418.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:32 pmYou are right Joey. No one cares about the Phillies, 76ers, Flyers really. But, if you don’t like the Eagles, you take a lot of shit. Its great. Best fans\environment in sports.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:32 pmI am a Braves, Vikings, and Spurs guy. No one is more all over the place than me.
Our big guns need to quit matching groundouts with the Luke Scotts and Adam Everetts of the world. Someone needs to step the F up.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:32 pmAndruw’s going deep.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:33 pmI am a Braves and Portland Trail Blazers guy. That’s a coast-to-coast thing.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:33 pmAram-
I am A SPOURS FAN ALSO—REALLY? ANOTHER SPURS FAN!!!!
I hate the Rockets and obviously, hate all Houston teams.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:34 pmAndruw’s walking
October 9th, 2005 at 4:34 pmBraves, Spurs Georgia & Alabama for me…I like the Falcons but not as passionate abnout the NFL. I more care what the Georgia Bulldogs IN the NFL do like Champ Bailey, Richard Seymour et all.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:35 pmI will cautiously allow that from a strategic standpoint we are in a much better position at this point…we’ve got a rested starter in there and most of our best hitters are still in the lineup. They’ve got a tired and hurt Clemens left to pitch, and guys I’ve never heard of in the lineup.
This is a cautious, fingers-crossed assessment, I stress…
Good eye Andruw.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:35 pmGreat fan environment? Didn’t Philly fans boo Santa Claus? What’s up with that?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:36 pmMike Clay, I remember going to Phillies games (when I was there, they still played at the Vet), and the stands being completely empty. When the Braves were around, the crowds were fine, but it was kind of creepy to see, say, a Phillies/Expos game and just have entire sections with only two people sitting.
Fair ball! Nice kick, Wheeler!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:36 pmYes, I also hate everything Houston. The Astros, Yao Ming, Jeff Van Gundy, Dom Capers. It’s all terrible.
Fair Ball!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:36 pmwow, what an idiot move by Wheeler.
It takes a dumbass move like that to get the ball rolling…GO BRAVES GO.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:37 pmWE GET A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!1
October 9th, 2005 at 4:37 pmThis would be another bunt situation, but last year Francouer bunted a ball into his face and broke his eye socket, so I don’t know about bunting here.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:37 pmBad play by Wheeler, we have got to take advantage right here, right now.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:37 pmGREAT JOB FRENCHY!!!!
JUST A FLYBALL, BOYS…A FLYBALL.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:37 pmI actually LIKE a bunt there.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:38 pmYea well the passion is for the Eagles.
…and yes they booed Santa Claus. It was funny. Nothing wrong with a sense of humor in a crowd
October 9th, 2005 at 4:38 pmGS for Mccann?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:38 pmC’mon McCann!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:38 pmBy the way Arm, I actually have a ton of friends and family who live in Houston and have already been there 3 times this year but despite all that, I HATE THEIR SPORTS TEAMS…HATE THEM.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:39 pmGreat fan environment? Didn’t Philly fans boo Santa Claus? What’s up with that?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:39 pmWhy did that just post twice when I refreshed…I hate Macs.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:39 pmA grand slam would be nice, but so would a sac fly.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:39 pmI went to a Braves game in Philly in September – was the series the Braves dropped 3 of 4. I was at the 1 game Braves won. Pretty fun walking through everybody afterwards with my Braves shirt on – gotta say I was a little nervous (having heard about Philly fans)…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:40 pmThis is it, folks. Pete Orr on deck. Brower in the bullpen.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:40 pmNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! They’re saying Orr’s going to hit for Thomson and Brower’s coming in!
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
October 9th, 2005 at 4:40 pmMac hates you too?
Ok…I have made that joke before..sorry I couldnt resist.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:40 pmShould we let Thomson bat regardless of how will happen? I think we should.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:40 pmIf McCann hits a GS maybe they’ll leave Thomson in…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:41 pmwhy, why why why would Bobby take Thomson out?
WHY?
its not like hes pitching tomorrow so just keep thomson out there…he looks sharp!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:41 pmIf Mccann reaches & there’s a runner on 3rd for Thomson, look for a squeeze
October 9th, 2005 at 4:41 pmPlating a couple of runs guarantees that Thomson stays out there. Just need a single here.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:41 pmBrower frightens me, but also, who do we have left after him? McBride? Anyone else?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:42 pmWow…McCann got away with one today.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:42 pmWell, I wear my braves hat everywhere so I get glares from time to time. I wear it proudly at the Phils games too. It is acceptable for a Braves hat, it is not for Falcons\other attire. You will get booed until you cry. Its amazing.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:42 pmI just realized I’m rockin’ like Leo…ha!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:42 pmDevine.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmdammit.
And now if Orr fucks up, we have no Thomson and Brower in a 6-6 tie.
this is potentially a devastating move. Leave thomson in and live to fight another day, cox.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmSo, basically our season comes down to Pete Orr. Shit.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmAnd now Brower has to pitch.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmMemo to Braves hitters – swing at strikes, not balls!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmOK, if Orr doesn’t get a hit the season’s over.
Hell, even if he does, the season STILL might be over.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmAs much as I like Thomson, this is the right move.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:43 pmnow…we are fucked. I woiuld rather not score and have thomson out then risk it with orr and 2 outs and brower in a tie game….this could really finish us.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:44 pmNow one of the crappy bullpen people come out to lose it.
Nice, Bobby. Nice.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:44 pmS**t!!!! That was our chance and we kicked it away. S**t!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:44 pmAll the Braves needed was a sac fly . . . .
October 9th, 2005 at 4:45 pmThomson could have gone Nanother 5 innings. Because even IF Brower is effective, eventually he has to come out for Joey Devine…we have mcbride left but thats it.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:45 pmBases loaded and one out and the Braves cant do anything…pathetic. How many chances do they think their gonna get. Their lucky the game isnt over by now.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:45 pmGreat. We just gave up our biggest advantage, a rested and ready-to-go Thomson. Now it’s Brower and Devine vs. Wheeler and Clemens.
I am not happy.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:45 pmThis is completely stupid, does Bobby realize what is our advantage is at the moment?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:46 pmIf I’d have pinch-hit anyone there, it would have been Estrada, then double-switched or something. As it is, season’s over.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:46 pmI’d rather have McBride out there against a switch hitter and two righties than Brower. No question.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:46 pmSuch a poor fundamental team at times. They have had trouble all year at moving runners up, bunting and scoring runners from third base with less than 2 outs. I hope that wasn’t their last chance…..
October 9th, 2005 at 4:46 pm“It’s our lot in life. We were made to suffer.” — C3PO in Star Wars
I think it could be accurately applied to Braves fans in October.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:47 pmYou guys can’t be seriously critcizing Cox for the PH for Thomson, can you? Come on, you have to put a real hitter up to try to get in front.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:47 pmBut I did forget about McBride . . . but then it seems like Bobby has too.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:47 pmyes…why didnt bobby double switch? It would have garnered thomson another 2-e3 innings, MINIMUM.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:47 pmOne positive note:
Even Brower might be able to get out the bottom of the Astros AAA lineup.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:48 pmI just got back from being gone all day. Hell of a game. I strongly disagree with bunting Francoeur, especially since it meant having to rely on McCann and Orr instead of Francoeur, Langerhans, or McCann.
Andruw should have caught the “home run,” it looks like. What a depressing game, even if somehow we come win.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:49 pmBobby had to PH for Thomson. Have you guys forgotten the time he left Hudson in vs. Philadelphia?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:49 pmKirk,
Logic in this situation dictated that either Cox double switch or take the goose egg. we needed to have Thomson out there, who was looking sharp and settled in.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:49 pmI suppose Andruw was running on contact but is it possible that McCann missed a bunt sign? I know the bases are loaded but with one out and the pitcher’s spot coming up it would be an interesting, albeit gutsy, call and certainly better than pinch-hitting for Thompson.
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 4:49 pmwell…good inning for Brower…could we try & win this goddamn game now…PLEASE?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:50 pmIT’S TIME TO SCORE A RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET’S GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 4:50 pmSix pitches for Brower that inning.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:50 pmHudson was at 100 pitches. Thomson had pitched two innings. Nobody ever says Bobby should take out Hudson in the third.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:50 pm“Double switch”? Alex, that makes no sense. Thomson was already in the game. He came in in the ninth spot after Betemit made the last out pinch-hitting there. Bobby didn’t screw up. You have to take the shot to score.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:50 pmHalftime: Eagles 3 Cowboys 27
Good work Brower.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:51 pmDavid, Thomson was not tired. This is a completely different situation.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:51 pmClemens is warming up.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:52 pmI agree that Thomson probably had plenty left in the tank, but you have to put someone who can hit up there. You have to take a chance on scoring enough insurance. Orr made contact; he didn’t whiff.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:53 pmMac,
I disagree…Thomson looked great and you leave him out there…if we hit 20 innings we will be forced now to trust Devine. Not good. thats why you leave thomson out and live to fight another inning. I feel strongly about this.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:53 pmSutcliffe, sadly, is right that Furcal is hitting like Willie Mays Hays. Thats a true statement, sadly.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:54 pmIf this asshole wheeler would ever come out, I think we can take a hurting and exhausted Clemens.
fucking dan wheeler.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:55 pmI expect McBride will be the next man out. Twenty innings? Come on. I don’t think you can worry about what’s going to happen five innings from now.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:56 pmIf it comes to it, I think I would almost rather see Furcal come in to pitch and Devine go to short.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:56 pmOk, we’ve got McBride and Devine left. They’ve got a not-100% Rocket. What happens if it goes six or seven more innings or just four or five for Houston? Will we see Sosa? HoRam? Smoltz? That guy who’s name we can’t say?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:57 pmI don’t get what you guys are saying. What double switch would have helped? When Thomson came in, Betemit had just made the last out PH for R. He could not have waited longer to come up to bat. You have an opportunity to take the lead, you have to go for it. Anything else is nuts.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:57 pmFeel free to swing Chipper.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:57 pmI would rather Chipper take pitches then pull a Giles.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:58 pmOh, I’m not saying that 20 innings is something we should worry about, I’m just thinkin’ of some crazy what-ifs. Like if we won it right here.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:58 pmAndruw, B my MVP?
October 9th, 2005 at 4:58 pmfucking dan wheeler you rotten bastard. Someone just kill this guy.
I hope Giles doesnt run or they will WALK Andruw.
stay at first, ADHD boy.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:59 pmCan’t believe how sharp Wheeler still looks having thrown 50 pitches
October 9th, 2005 at 4:59 pmAndruw WAS hit by a pitch.
That means home run RIGHT NOW.
October 9th, 2005 at 4:59 pmChipper looked completely clueless…
October 9th, 2005 at 4:59 pmLaRoche is a pitcher, but we already wasted him.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:00 pmChipper pulled gthe same disappearing act in LAST YEARS first round? what the fuck already?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:00 pmWow. I’m shocked Andruw didn’t chase that.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:00 pmGames like this certainly seem like a strong argument for letting good bullpen guys pitch > 1 inning stints- Wheeler has been ridiculous.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:01 pmRufino,
I agree…its why we shouldnt have wasted Thomson.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:02 pmc’mon Brower…c’mon.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:02 pmBiggio is 0-6, and that’s incredibly scary. There’s NO WAY we’re getting out of this inning alive. (You like the use of all caps, Alex?)
October 9th, 2005 at 5:03 pmThere’s an excellent chance that Oswalt is going to hit here and then Clemens come in to pitch, meaning that the Astros would have used 24 men on a 25 man roster. Has that ever happened?
Of course, have to get Biggio first.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:03 pmi tried guys….pray for outs
October 9th, 2005 at 5:04 pmThis game is so depressing you know? Both teams are doing everything to lose it, but neither one seems to want to win the damn ball game…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:04 pmThe first four hitters for us have hit 3 for 21 so far.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:04 pmThis game would have ended a couple hours ago if Garner hadn’t pinch run Burke for Berkman.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:05 pmI could easily win the World’s Weakest Man contest right now. This is one of the more enervating games I have ever watched- my poor kid probably thinks he’s going to be an orphan before this god damned game ends.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:05 pmThe Braves have left 16 men on base.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:05 pmThe commentators seem VERY pro Astro…It is really grossing me out.
Stu,
love all caps when its the right time…you used it well, obi-wan.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:06 pmGuess they will let Clemens hit. Please pop up the frigging bunt, you old fart.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:06 pmThat walk to Biggio was exactly NOT what was needed. S**t.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:06 pmOk… we were winning 5-1 when I left the house earlier, and it was like the bottom of the seventh. What have you people been doing since then?!
Anyway, I’m home now. We can go ahead and win now.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:07 pmRufino,
By the way, you officially win the award for the coolest name on here BravesJournal. Alex.
c’mon Brower, block out Sutcliffe…er, the asshole fans.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:07 pmWhy, WHY would you throw a low pitch right there when he abso-fucking-lutely has to get a bunt down? That is stupid, stupid.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:08 pmYeah, Alex. I hate how they say pro-Astro things, then catch themselves, and try to force it balanced. Like, “These fans have been on a roller coaster tonight, and it sure would be great for them to go home happy. … … … (of course, it sure would be great for Braves fans for their team to win, too)”
October 9th, 2005 at 5:08 pmJoey
couldnt agree with you more…I hate Sutcliffe and hate Lyons over on FOX.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:09 pmTHROW STRIKES.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:10 pmGreat idea – walk him to get to Ensberg. Unreal.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:10 pmThere’s no way Ensberg doesn’t get a hit here.
It’s been great, guys.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:10 pmoh god…2 basrunners, 1 pout and now ensberg.
Its been nice chatting with everyone. see you all in april.
listen to the commentators. dispicable.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:11 pmBrower is toast, but he won’t be pulled for McBride. This sucks.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:11 pmBy the way, Chris Burke looks like that Luke-whatever guy looks like Brandon Backe looks like everybody else on that team- it’s like they just take one guy then he switches jerseys a lot. Except Everett and Berkman- those guys are too ugly to resemble anyone else.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:11 pmMac, Ensberg won’t get a hit here if Brower WALKS HIM
October 9th, 2005 at 5:11 pmWhy is Devine up? Is Bobby going to bring him in with the bases loaded? They’re going to destroy this kid’s career.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:12 pmMy guess is that they’re rooting for the Astros because they’re lazy and want to go cool their heels in St. Louis or with their families for a day, rather than go to Atlanta for Game 5.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:12 pmI meant Ensberg was ugly- my apologies to Berkman, for what it’s worth.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:12 pmgreat, to add insult to injury, ensberg is a fucking USC Torjan. I want barf…wheres the Matt Leinhart lovefest…fucking sutcliffe.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:12 pmyesssssssssss
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmYES! JULIO!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmI cannot believe Brower got out of that.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmYEEEAAAAHH! Nice dig Julio!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmBig dp. wow.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmWow.
Ensberg is apparently a graduate of the Biggio School of Bad Baserunning.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmgood good…we live to fight another inning…this HAS to finally pump the Braves up. cmon boys…lets hand the rocket loss #2.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:13 pmCOME ON BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmGawd have mercy, we’re going to 16. If my doctor saw my blood pressure reading, he’d be calling for an ambulance.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmOh my god, thanks so much for the double play…why on earth do we give a chance to Ensberg to beat us?! Poor managing, absolutely poor managing…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmAlright, I’ve read almost all 9,000 comments without saying anything. I have to break the silence…
Roger Sucks.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmThis is turning into the “War and Peace” of playoff games.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmAlex R.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:14 pmThe Fox commentators have been talking about the USC connection the whole weekend. They might as well crown them champs and get it over with. (Can you tell I’m a disgruntled Auburn grad?)
550 comments, by the way.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:15 pmThe Astros are doing everything they can to give the Braves a chance. Let’s make Clemens take the hit. More patience at the plate.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:15 pmThis game has got to end soon. I think one of my dogs just pissed on the rug and my kid smells like a fishery just exploded in his Huggies. If it isn’t over soon, at this rate my house is going to collapse around me and I’ll still be staring fixatedly at the frigging TV.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:15 pmC’mon Julio, become the oldest player to homer in the postseason.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:16 pmNot that I’m complaining about the outcome but why do these guys insist on sliding head-first into first base? What you make up for in distance you lose in momentum. Usually, the trade-off isn’t worth it. Personally, I think umpires hate to see that shite!
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 5:16 pmOldest ever pitcher v. batter?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:16 pmchill,
yup…I have a feeling Mac will be a disgruntled Bama fan or myself a disgruntled Georgia fan if Texas gets a FREE PASS PLAYING A JOKE BIG 12 SCHEDULE to play USC.
I am rooting hard for Notre Dame next weekend…I hope the asshole arrognat Trojans go down.
and yeah, auburn got screwed…you beat my Dawgs twice and absolutely deserved a shot at the title…you go unbeaten in the SEC you shouild play for a nat’l title. a joke.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:16 pmThis is turning into the “War and Peace” of playoff games.
I’m thinking Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times . . .”
October 9th, 2005 at 5:16 pmFranco vs. Clemens has got to be a record for highest combined ages to face each other in a post season game.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:17 pmRyan couldn’t carry Phil Niekro’s jock.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:17 pmYou’re totally right, Brian
JoeyT
October 9th, 2005 at 5:17 pmI always thought the only reason to slide into first was if you had some reason to believe it would be an errant throw and there would need to be a tag applied. Otherwise, bad idea.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:17 pmPat Gonzalez: “Julio, do NOT get thrown out. Do NOT get thrown OUT!”
October 9th, 2005 at 5:18 pmGood for you Franco, but dont get thrown out….LaRoche has already been used.
thanks Freddie.
and that was a fucking homer call.
BULLSHIT. BULLSHIT.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:18 pmThe commentators must be beaten. senseless. now.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:19 pmI’d like to have seen Julio charge the mound on Clemens, that would have been cool.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:19 pmK-zone was too high in that case. It’s not on the right line. Julio was right.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:20 pmMan, you guys have made me glad I don’t get to watch this on TV because of my lack of cable.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:20 pmThis is insane.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:20 pmoh great…the good roger clemens.
we cant get a fucking break.
sutcliffe, if you give the crowd credit one more time I am going to fly down to Houston and beat you myself you cheesy short term pitching hack.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:20 pmRufino, that was the funniest post here ever. Good one.
Does Brower go one more? He makes me very uneasy. His first inning all three outs were hard hit.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:21 pmEven if K-Zone was right, the point is that that pitch hasn’t been called a strike all game long. I hate everyone.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:21 pmHey, it’s some dork with a grill. Again. For the 93rd time. Can’t they at least run some new freaking ads?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:22 pmThe good news…TROJAN BOY HAS ALREADY BATTED.
The bad news…the good hard throwing roger clemens.
Can the Braves possibly have a bigger mountain to climg right now??
October 9th, 2005 at 5:22 pmI hate to be the Pollyana here, but as time marches on, the Braves’ chances are improving. Astros have burned eight pitchers to our five and all their bench players. We have one left, two if you count Brian Jordan.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:23 pmthrow strikes, jerk.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:23 pmBledsoe, I’m sorry, have you seen our pitchers? We could have four fresh, rested Browers and I would still take Clemens.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmAHHHHHHH
DONT SAY THE ONE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED, NAME. DONT EVER SAY HIS NAME. DONT.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmI can’t believe Brower is out to pitch another inning. He is out of gas. It will be a miracle if we live to see the 17th.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmLet’s just get this over with, said Mac. Why string it out??
IRONY!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmbledsoe, you like the matchup of Clemens vs. Brower/McBride/Devine?
I don’t.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmThat chick with the baby was hot.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmBorwer, do not walk raul chavez. do not walk raul chavez.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:24 pmAnyone know whos winning the World’s Weakest Man Competition? I saw some of the stapler round….like 700 times.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:25 pmIf this was a Fox game, it would be the longest postseason game in MLB history.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:25 pmSteve Trachsel must have started that 2000 Mets-Giants game.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:25 pmMike Clay,
I like the 6-2 120 lb. guy myself.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:26 pmChip and Don took over after the fifth and have been yakking ever since. This is grueling, too grueling for words.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:26 pmRufino….you are hysterical. Thats probably true. a Nine inning Traschel game has to be longer then this!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:26 pmDo we really need examples of starters relieving in the playoffs to prove it has happened before? Anyone still watching this train wreck obviously knows that, Sutcliffe. Shut up and go trim your faggy beard.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:27 pmGreat inning, Jim-bo.
I officially HATE Rick Sutcliffe and his pro astros commentary…he is beyond being beaten savagely…he needs to be sent straight to hell.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:27 pmSorry to bring a ray of sunshine to this funeral.
Uh, yes. I like the fact that we have 2 PH to their none. I like the fact that we have at least three fresh arm in the bullpen, and we are facing a 42 year old who threw 100 pitches 3 days ago.
Every inning we survive, our chances of winning go up.
But if it’ll make you feel better:
WE”RE DOOOMED!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:28 pmI don’t know Alex. I think he screwed himself by coming through with the stapler so quickly. We will see if he can come back in the “Bench Press Julio Franco’s bat” Event.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:28 pmWonders never cease. 3 shutout innings from Brower. Remember he pitched 2 yesterday. Devine or McBride in the 17th?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:28 pmHe is starting to make me miss the good old days of Steve Lyons. Those were the days….balk, balk, balk…..
October 9th, 2005 at 5:28 pmChip keeps referring to this game as an “extravaganza.” I sincerely hope the circus nabs him when it comes to town.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:29 pmCan everyone believe what we are seeing from Reitsma and Brower today?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:29 pmI know they didn’t used to have LCS, and they didn’t have the current first round until ten years ago, but it’s still pretty freaking phenominal that this is the longest playoff game in the history of baseball.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:29 pmI don’t get Braves radio in Tampa. Has Don Sutton mentioned that we’re getting ‘free baseball’ yet?
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 5:29 pmThat stapler thing was impressive, Mike. I grant you that.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:29 pmDoes anybody remember when Hudson was on the mound earlier today? It’s a little foggy.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmway to take a pitch, MCCANN. Were you taking hitting tips from Giles and Fuckal?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmSeven shutout innings from Reitsma, Thomson, and Brower. I can’t believe we’re not winning.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmThank You master.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmJust think of the money Fox is losing by not showing their regularly scheduled programs… darn…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmThat was a long time ago, Brian. Now he’s counting broadcaster bathroom breaks. “A new record.”
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmGreat, the one wwho shall not be named is hitting. Dammit.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:30 pmJust take a walk, nameless…c’mon.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:32 pmDid that just happen?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:32 pmJordan!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:32 pmVoldemort with a double…we can say his name now…yeah JORDAN…YEAH
October 9th, 2005 at 5:32 pmI’ll give Alex the credit for that double.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:32 pmWhoa, didn’t say THAT coming…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmJordan doubles off a right handed power pitcher. If we don’t score here, we never will.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmWow. Who saw that one coming?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmOh God, though…if we win now it means Cox will definitely start him. Oh god.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmIf Jordan scores here, with Brower getting the win, this game has officially gone on so long it’s entered the Twilight Zone.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmCan you believe this?!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmJordan got that hit because of his tremendous heart.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmMan, there are a lot of UGLY batting lines today
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmIf Bobby really knew Jordan would double, and he was just waiting for the right time to use him, wouldn’t he have picked, oh I don’t know, a time with SOMEBODY ON BASE? Why do announcers feel compelled to say such idiotic shit?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmRemember Jordan won Game 3 in the NLDS in Houston back in ’99 in extras…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:33 pmIn 1999, Jordan was a good hitter.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:34 pmGod Dammit fuckal…another wasted inning. You knjow Giles will fucking swing at the first pitch.
We have just wasted 7 great relief innings and Jordan double. once in a lifetime opportunities folks.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:34 pmThis is one of the strangest things I have ever seen.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:34 pmDid Jordan advance? I’m on a delay.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:34 pmLOL @ Basil – Rufino just said (wrote) what I thought after I heard that comment…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:35 pmYeah, he moved up.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:35 pmRick Sutcliffe is one of the strangest things I have HEARD. Gee, ESPN, was John Tudor not avaailable?
fucking GILES.
WE just wasted jordan’s only hit for the next 3 years.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:36 pmDoes Giles have a hit yet in the playoffs?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:36 pmPathetic excuse for a swing there Marcus. S**t!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:37 pmMarcus sucks big time…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:37 pmEagles Sheldon Brown just picked off a pass and returned it for a TD (see Last weeks game vs KC)
…only we are down 30-10 this week
October 9th, 2005 at 5:37 pmGiles = big talk, nothing else.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:37 pmTo be honest, I think that was Jordan’s last hit EVER. Honestly, is he actually going to get anymore atbats throughout the playoffs to get a hit?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:37 pmIt’s nice to know that Babe Ruth was apparently mildly retarded. Thanks, Anheuser-Busch, for bringing that to light.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:38 pmThe whole top of our order sucks big time. The only guy I even trust at the plate at this point is Ryan freaking Langerhans. How sad is that?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:38 pmHey Mike, where are you from? I’m switchin between both games right now too. Less and less of the Eagles though…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:38 pmIt sounds like Andruw and Chipper are trying to double-team Erin Andrews. Good luck, guys!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:39 pmI’ve missed Erin.
The Braves have left 17 men on base.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:39 pmLMAO. Hilarious Rufino.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:39 pmSafe to say, if we win, Estrada will be catching tomorrow.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:39 pmThanks lady, it’s good to know that Chipper is still the same old Chipper. Let him take you out after the game.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:39 pmTrying to be serious for once, I think if Devine gets this loss we should probably trade him. I don’t know if he will be able to mentally bounce back from all the crap he’s been through this year…
October 9th, 2005 at 5:41 pmI got a call..
I missed Chipper and Andruw going ‘Gold Club/Hooters’ on hottie Erin Andrews?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:42 pmRocket looks tired, i hope they make Biggio pitch.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:42 pmDevine is kicking ass.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:43 pmWho has slept with Erin Andrews?
A. Andruw Jones
October 9th, 2005 at 5:43 pmB. Chipper Jones
C. Terry Pendleton
D. Both A and B
E. A, B, and C
Wow…Devine is looking Devine.
can we PLEASE get to the rocket already next inning?
oh my god….sutcliffe is COMPLIMENTING DEVINE. I just fainted from shock.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:43 pmI rescind my thoughts about Devine not bouncing back mentally. Apparently that was a self-reflection.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:43 pmreally, anonymous? making this up or is this really something you know?
is that YOU Derek Lowe?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:44 pmF: Francoeur, Jeff
October 9th, 2005 at 5:44 pmG: Not me. Sadly.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:45 pmIf she sleeps with McCann, she should go to jail for statuatory rape.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:45 pmMike Clay-
look…weakest man competition!~~~go stapler guy!!!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:46 pmWonder if Smoltz is available to close the game if we get a lead in one of these innings? I like what Devine did last inning…but if Clemens can do it, I’d like to think Smoltz might be able to (since he’s not starting tomorrow).
October 9th, 2005 at 5:46 pmWhy did Erin leave Turner Sports?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:47 pmIf this game outlasts the Eagles game, I will not drink tonight…
hmm…on second thought…
i will say “Damn, that was one long baseball game,” and then drink.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:47 pmThink Chipper and Andruw are exchanging notes on their crazy night with Erin? if it involved midgets, then its SOOOOO Zoolander of them.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:47 pmI think she got some hockey gig. You know, her hair was always this yellowish green color I associate with kids who spend too much time at the pool. And those teeth! Way too bright.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmWHY THE HELL DID HE TAKE LAROCHE OUT?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmThis is where we catch up to Roger.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmshe left TBS because Don Sutton though Marc Fein was just soooo much cuter!!! LOL.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmAnd Skip would rag on her every chance he got. He made no attempt to hide his contempt for her.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:48 pmOk…dumb luck will now help us get our run.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:49 pmThat error will LOSE THE GAME for the Astros.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:49 pmGood hustle by Andruw there. Jesus.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:50 pmIt’s not dumb luck. It’s poor managing. It would be like Bobby trying to play Estrada at first.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:50 pm“That error will LOSE THE GAME for the Astros.”
Way to think positive there.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:50 pmSkip is old school and sideline reporter is the most useless job in sports.
still, she is nice to look at and I am not against them sexing up the broadcasts with a little hottie like Erin.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:50 pmLAROCHE
October 9th, 2005 at 5:51 pmWhy did he put Franco in anyways? Defense? Doesn’t seem right. Punishment for lollygagging around the bases?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:52 pmYa know… WHEN this goes to a game 5 the managing will be really interesting seeing how tired everyone has to be.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:53 pm674 comments.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:53 pmWas LaRoche really lollygagging? I honestly thought that was just how slow he is- I mean, the man is really, really, really not fast.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:54 pmlike the 6 hrs of this freaking game.
good eye, frenchie.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:54 pmAt 1023 comments, we’ll start uncovering software bugs.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:54 pmLaRoche was watching the ball instead of the third-base coach, causing him to lose a couple of steps.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:55 pmRufino
I watched that replay and LAROCHE WAS DEFINITELY LOLLYGAGGING…THAT WAS NOT A SPEED ISSUE…I WATCHED WITH MY BUDDY EARLIER WHO IS A MARINERS FAN AND HAS NOT LOYLATIES EITHER WAY AND SAID IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT ADAM WAS LOLLYGAGGING.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:55 pmi cant imagine it was for the baserunning. Maybe he got hurt.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:55 pmYour page views have to be insane too. I know I have refreshed about every minute or so. FORSIXFREAKINGHOURS!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:55 pmOkay, pronoun reference problem there: “causing [LaRoche] to lose a couple of steps.”
October 9th, 2005 at 5:56 pmI can’t take much more of this.
out of hand
October 9th, 2005 at 5:56 pmMac, can you start a new thread for us?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:57 pmSad thing?
My buddy Greg, the Mariners fan, is getting married in 3 weeks and had to leave my house for a dance lesson with his wife (as a football fan, he was grumpy about this)….anyway, the lesson is now over and he called me STUNNED that this game was over because he left right when Berkman hit the grand slam and it was 6-5. He asked if I was Ok and needed provisions and felt very sorry for me. really funny.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:57 pmPeg Clemens here. It’s time to play dirty.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:57 pmI think we should drill Clemens in the head. Who else does Houston have to pitch?
October 9th, 2005 at 5:58 pmTry not to think of Rick Camp!!
October 9th, 2005 at 5:59 pmwell…the saving grace is that if Houston does eliminate us we are destroying Clemens for the St. Louis series.
Of course, though I hate Houston, I actually would ROOT for Houston because Tony LaRussa is the most evil man in Baseball NOT NAMED BARRY BONDS. I hate the Cardinals.
October 9th, 2005 at 5:59 pmFuck.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:00 pmCheap homer
October 9th, 2005 at 6:00 pmsee everyone in april.
dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:00 pmShit shit shit.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:00 pmIt has been fun. Love you all.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:00 pmThis is just completely stupid.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:01 pmworst game ever
October 9th, 2005 at 6:01 pmgod-fucking-damnit…i hate the braves
when does spring training start?
October 9th, 2005 at 6:01 pmWell, holy crap. Roger got a win.
Color me shocked.
Bye bye, Braves.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:01 pm338′ thats bullshit. This is all Enrons fault.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:01 pmfucking braves
October 9th, 2005 at 6:02 pmi just wasted the past 6 hours of my life to see the braves and falcons lose?
October 9th, 2005 at 6:02 pmI’m gonna go put “American Pie” by Don Maclean and “Unchained Melody” on loop and just sit in the dark all night.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:02 pmToo many freaking wasted opportunities. What a way for the season to end. I don’t know if Devine can recover from this.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:02 pm*opening liquor cabinet*
October 9th, 2005 at 6:03 pmMy wife has offered me sex and a chance to watch my 2005 spurs championship video. I am still depressed.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:03 pmMy party here starts soon.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:04 pmI think i will start early…
Sutcliffe: “There are no losers here this afternoon.” My brain can’t take this anymore. I quit.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:05 pmI feel like a Red Sox fan…just waiting for bad things to happen in the postseason
October 9th, 2005 at 6:05 pmHow many days til pitchers/catchers report? We will be stacked next year. ANd remember, its not whether you win or lose, its how big your johnson is that counts.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:05 pmHe said that? F*** him. Yeah, we’re holding our heads HIGH. What an idiot.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:06 pmWow…
October 9th, 2005 at 6:06 pmI feel just awful for Joey Devine. Just awful,
October 9th, 2005 at 6:06 pmThe Braves had SO many chances to put this game away and didn’t get the job done. We got what we deserved, once again. It’s about time that our approach to winning be examined and changed. The Astros beat us with their Z-team. What does that tell you? It’s messed up.
Brian
October 9th, 2005 at 6:07 pmOK, I found a single bright spot: The Braves won’t be blowing Game 5 at home THIS year. No sir.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:07 pmI dunno, atlinl.a. Were we supposed to be here? Shouldn’t this be the Mets, Phillies, Marlins, or Nationals going home right now? I’m just going to keep this in perspective.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:07 pmi agree jenny; devine’s had a shitty year. hope he has a short memory.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:07 pmI hope Devine’s finished school. He’s going to need another trade.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:09 pmTo say it right now, though, when the people haven’t even left the stadium yet…over the winter is when you think about what you’ve accomplished to get there…
The division title streak is starting to feel hollow in the face of 1st round exit after 1st round exit…that’s 4 in a row, and 5 in 6 years.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:10 pmHey, ESPN went straight into showing all the Braves’ miscues today! Next, they will be sending reps to all our homes to give us third degree burns and then rub salt directly in them.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:11 pmI need a cold shower
October 9th, 2005 at 6:11 pmMaybe we should give up the division title and go for the wild card next year, it seems to be working for everyone else.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:12 pmThat was an unbearably bad game, as if to torment braves fans and the team by exaggerating their faults. Leap ahead, then let the bullpen give it up, then highlight their inability to hit when it really means something.
Well, goodbye postseason. I don’t think the Braves will be wasting our time in October next year.
I won’t be surprised if Smoltz’ career is over now (worse than they admit and too late for another major surgery?), Furcal leaves because Ted Turner wanted to gamble on internet stocks 6 years ago. Looks like the Braves only have the budget and talent to be first round losers these days. Next year will probably be the first real rebuilding year.
October 9th, 2005 at 6:24 pmI guess it is time ti start predicting the teams look next year. .
